Definitely spontaneous. Remember the scene in 805 - The Thing That Couldn't Die, where Crow sings "There's a thick yellow stain on my back brace"? Mike laughs his ASS OFF. You can hear him whisper "wow" after he laughs.

Sorry Forrest, I'm not going to help matters much...
I think it's a mix. I think Mike genuinely gets a kick out of life and his job (as a humorist). Even when he's acting evil (as in "Last of the Wild Horses"), there's this little 'nice guy having some fun' gleam that shines through.
BUT... lets be honest. They are doing some acting. The movies don't really make them cry, Deep Hurting didn't really hurt and Tom didn't really freak out during "TISCWSLABMUZ". There are times when the bots are acting goofy and it's Mike's job, as an actor, to laugh and deliver a line. Or maybe even when a scene in the movie would be enhanced by it.
Going back to the Joel era: During Zilla vs Megs, when Godzy did that 'fly through the air' kick. the laughter helped make that a funny scene. But was that really spontanious? Would you still laugh after seeing the same scene over and over and over again through the week?
I dunno, but watch the end of Monster A-Go-Go when Joel messes up the line and calls Crow "Sir Mix A Lot". Trace gets the giggles, that sounded spontanious to me.

The biggest laugh that HAS to be spontaneous is from 702 - The Brute Man. That old, bitter grocer who yells at the kid for no reason, you can tell he's REALLY laughing. No fake stuff there.
819 - Invasion of the Neptune Men: "Nespah, is that what he said?" - Crow You can hear Mike laugh really hard there too.
1004 - Future War "Ladies and Gentlemen, Fred Burroughs!" - Servo Mike laughs really hard saying "Ok, stop it."
703 - Deathstalker and the Warriors from Hell "Use tongue as blunt object, swab tongue onto every available surface!" - Crow Mike laughs hard there too
804 - The Deadly Mantis: Here are a couple examples of him laughing at his own comments "So shut your fat gob!" - Mike He laughs very quiet, but you can hear it if you listen closely "Was there a sale on BOWL haircuts?" He laughs right after that too
There might be some examples of fake laughing, but the majority, I feel, are spontaneous.
There are even examples of Kevin laughing for real. In Escape 2000, when Mike says "Ohh, they are sleeping!", you can hear him laugh really hard, then whisper "wow".

I just watched "Final Sacrifice" and Mike's laugh after Crow (as Troy) says "magic marker my weinie" sounds spontaneous to me...even if not, I think it's pretty cool...
