I wonder what he thought when he found out that Mike and the Bots riffed his "classics". Is he even alive anymore?

Dead From Daddy O's Drive In Dirt www.mst3kinfo.com/daddyo/index.htmlEven though filming had been completed on Super Cool, director Steckler reportedly shot an additional scene with Francis in order to give him some work after discovering him homeless and ravaged by alcoholism. Francis died soon thereafter. Note that all three films which Coleman Francis directed have been MSTed. Too bad there aren't any more. Coleman Francis, rather than Ed Wood, should be heir to the title of "Worst Director in Hollywood."

Damn! I wish he was still alive. How do you think he would've reacted? Similar to Sandy Frank maybe?

WOW Ray Dennis Steckler and Coleman Francis in the same movie? And no Academy Award? Highway robbery, pure and simple.
I always thought that Coleman was the worst director in history. Even though Wood's movies are more inept, they are more watchable. CF's films are just unpleasant.

Just a simple idea of people running around and shooting and choking and grimacing. Yeah, Ed Wood's movies were cheesy to the nth degree, but they were fun to watch. For some reason, I love watching Plan 9 From Outer Space. however, Mr. Francis' movies just leave me feeling vacuous.

Ed Wood takes the heat for being the worst director but MSTies know better. Wood movies are bad but entertaining, they have a goofy charm. Coleman's work just beats you down. I can't think of any other director that can wrench such unemotional performances out of bad actors. Then he has the audacity to shoot close ups so you can see every nuance of their non-emoting. You get the feeling he was trying to punish the audience. Still Skydivers is a good ep.

I think the term "worst" gets thrown around a bit vaguely, personally. Coleman Francis was definitely the most "painful" director around (except for, perhaps, a certain fertilizer salesman who directed the season 4 finale), but I still see Ed Wood's as being the "worst" in a dollar for dollar fashion, even though his movies are much, much more enjoyable than many.

What was Sandy Frank's reaction again? I've missed that bit of the lore, I'm afraid.

I wonder what Roger Corman's reaction is. He's still around. None of his have seen Rhino releasse either.

I think the thing with Roger Corman is that the Rhino people might still see his films as marketable without the MST3K label. For as bad as some of his films are, he is definitely considered to be a decent cultural icon. He's managed to get a surprising fanbase.
However, I must say this: Roger Corman directed the original 1960's version of "Little Shop Of Horrors." If all of his works had been as good as that movie, he might have been able to avoid the MST3K treatment.
The B-movie that inspired the stage musical that inspired the movie musical that inspired the Broadway musical....he started a phenomenon.

I seem to recall Corman not being PO'd, but just didn't think the guys were very funny. As for Coeman, he doesn't look like someone who'd be very amussed by this.

Hah yeah, he seems like a person that takes his work VERY seriously. You gotta admit, even though The Undead was crappy, it was ALOT better than the majority of the films shown in MST. Except for Starcrash ...that one was rediculously bad.

BTW, Coleman Francis is dead, died around 1973. Anthony Cardoza said they found him in the back of a car with a plastic bag over his head!!
And unpleasant is right. Why did Coleman have all these rape scenes in his mvies? In RZC you see Coleman head back to the diner. What MST cut out were shots of beef-head grapling with the blind lady.
In Yucca Flats, the unMSTed version has that gal in the beginning- nude, strangled (which we see) then raped (which is implied by the hands on the bed).
Why Coleman, why?!! You sick twisted bas#@!*$!
