Very smart comedian! He is absolutely right about that. Cuss words are always used for shock (read: SOUTH PARK), and it doesn't always work on me. I'm glad he tries to steer away from it, because not only does it sound more intelligent, it's less shocking and therefore much more funny. It makes you think more, you know?

So very true. Just look at Charlie Chaplin.

Which is why in the stand up world, Bob Newhart is the king, and Bill Cosby is the...ummmm...other king.
I believe it was Cosby who said that working blue is "lowest common denomenator comedy."

I'm not convinced that "conservative" necessarily means republican. He may not be speaking politically, but instead about the type of person he is. Casually dressed, avoids the party scene, lives with a very typical family. It could be that he's republican, but I wouldn't jump to that right away.

eh. I'm sure you're right. I'm just trying to approach the matter carefully. Maybe we should rally around Mike Nelson for the next governor of California. Anything could happen there it seems like.

It's also possible that Mike Nelson is an Independant who tends to lean towards the Conservative side of things.
Or maybe he's always bursting into restaurants and making sure that he takes other peoples' REserved tables. Because then they are the opposite of REserved, which....would be CON....served....
I should just stop talking for the rest of the night. No more talking. Before I embarrass myself further.

Yeah, and Cosby was also the one who said that the Simpsons was the stupidest thing on television. All I have to say to his is look how long the Simpsons has been on, now look at how long the Cosby Show, Kids Say the Darndest Things, and Cosby were on (although I agree with his views on the Osbourns. That show is just proving how dumb our society is getting).

Amen to that. I've heard of *one* funny thing from that show when people were telling me about it second-hand, as opposed to other shows that I don't watch such as South Park where everything sounds hilarious in spite of the crude language.
I mean, I'm not even a professional comedian, and I *know* that I can come up with at least *two* funny things to say over the course of three seasons.

I get the impression that Mike is a laid back, simple (in a good way) kind of a guy. I cannot see him voting for Bush, but he may be conservative in terms of his lifestyle. He has kids....

I don't know, I'm not sure that "Christian" was neccessarily meant to be taken literally. Maybe he is religious, whatever...But I believe that when he said "I'm not joking", he was just clarifying that he wasn't being facetious about trying to raise his kids 'decent'. As to how "conservative" he is? If conservatives were like him, there would be no problems. The show is way too pro-drug, feminist, and anti-Bush Sr. for him to be 'conservative'.

After watching almost ALL of the Mike eps in the last few weeks, I can tell you the guy is a left of center liberal (as I am). He lambashes big business, the military, right wing nuts, racists, chauvanists and just plain goofy folk! He also got in some great riffs againsts Clinton and Hilary and other Democrats.

Yeah, I'm a liberal too, and I'd hate to think that Mike was one of THOSE kind of conservatives (bigoted, homophobic, favors big business over individuals, etc.). I don't get that vibe off him, though. Maybe he just meant that he was a kinda laid-back, normal family guy, which is okay with me.

Forrest...I will avoid a political debate re your last post...I think it is obvious from Mike's comments he is socially liberal but conservative in his behavior (perhaps for his kids)
He is anti smoking for one (not pro big Tobabacco!)
But I HIGHLY doubt he voted (or would vote) for Bush.
He's an intelligent, compasionate person. As were all the MST3K crowd.
nuff said.
