I've been reading about how someof you discovered MST. But I wonder, did you discover it by accident, or did a friend tell you about it? My boyfriend introduced it to me about 6 months ago. He's been watching it since the early 90's. We have all the DVD's and some downloaded eps (sorry if some would have a problem with the legal issue here) I wonder if I was one of the few who became a bigger fan than the person who introduced it to me. Did this happen to anyone besides me?

My dad introduced me to the show when I was 12. I definitely became a bigger fan than him, because he passed away a year later. It's kinda cool, because he used to watch the show when I was a kid. I remember the door sequence quite well, but I don't remember exactly how old I was when he watched it. I'm gonna guess it was season 2 or 3, so I was about 7 at the time.

I'd heardabout it and really wanted to see it. But my stupid town didn't carry CC!
I figured I'd love it. My Grandma used to talk back to the TV and make us lugh, my bro and I were always riffing on shows and movies (at home, I'm not so rude as to do it at a theater), so I really wanted to see this show everyone was talking about.
Also there was this TV show called Mad Movies that I loved (They put their own dialog into films).
When I finally saw an MST ep, I laughed so hard. It was a comedy match made in heaven.

I actually did stumble upon it while watching the KTMA network (lucky for me I live in the Twin Cities). I didn't really appreciate it though until I met a friend of a friend and I found out that he also watched and we started to get together to watch the show.
Even now, after all these years, both married and either with kids or impending, we still make some time to get together and watch episodes that we have on tape.
I can credit a show in making a great friendship. How many shows can make that claim?

I love old giant monster movies. A few days after we started getting the Sci Fi channel, I saw an add that said "On the next Mystery Science Theater 3000: THE DEADLY MANTIS!" Then they showed a few scenes from the episode. I giggled like a schoolgirl. What a clever concept. I ended up catching only the end and Crow's Meatloaf sketch (thought it was hillarious) but I watched it when it was reaired.

I took Sacramento a long time to get cable but while I was waiting I remember reading that the best show on CC was MST. That was about seasom 3. Being a skeptic I was skeptical but I gave it a chance. I warmed up to it a little at a time but soon became a loyal fan.

i was only five or six when i first discovered the show. i was flipping through the channels at my grandmothers house, and found some odd show with these little people at the bottom of the screen. i called my father to tell him about it, but he had no idea what the hell i was talking about. soon after i found it again on TV and showed it to him. i dont know why i even liked it at such a young age; like i would understand ANY of the jokes then. i believe it was around season 3 or 4 when i stumbled onto the show. mainly the robots and the look of the whole show was what i liked about it. i remember just laughing whenever they said anything because i knew they were supossed to be funny, even though i was completely clueless at 6 years old, lol.

That's an interesting point trueschatzi. Many of the letters they'd read were from little kids and I never understood why they liked it. The host segments did look like a kiddie show.

I think the kids appreciate the humor of adding silly phrases into the movie. They never had to understand it as long as it sounded silly enough.
It would be cool if this board actually got a member that had their letter read on the show someday...

Ah, but for that we'd need their to be an Mystery Science Theater 3500, or something.
Oh, and as soon as I first heard about it, I set out to watch it. Definitely intentional.

Mine was totally by accident and WHAT AN ACCIDENT. I was flipping through the channels one Sat morning and came across SANTA CLAUSE CONQUERS THE MARTIANS with these little bizarre sillouetted figures. Suddenly I was laughing uncontrollably! "Wait a sec!", I thought, "this is the Comedy Channel. There is never anything funny on the Comedy Channel!!" I contineud to laugh. OUT LOUD. For the rest of the show. I was hooked. Thank God for lucky accidents. God bless Servo and Crow and Gypsy and Galaxina and Cherry 2000!

But I think he IS as great of a fan as you, since I'm sure in Heaven, MST3K is playing 24/7 . . . . On a side note, about kids and MST. Although it seems to be mostly an adult show, I can see how kids could appreciate the silly characters even if they don't get the jokes. I found this to be funny. The website known as amIannoying.com classified MST3K as a "Puppet Show". And they meant that in a good way

About the time Sci-Fi moved it to Sundays, the wife and I began baby sitting my nieces. They couldn't wait for the show to start.
Fart jokes, they loved the fart jokes (well, so did I, I must admit). And Final Sacrifice they died laughing at that one. Troy really got 'em laughing. The line about his hair being on fire, that toothy smile and "EEEEEE" sound one of the guys made, when he sang the Rowsdower song as he searched for water. They loved that show.
Now Diabolik went right over their heads. And I have to admit I was a bit embarrassed to watch that one with them, what with all the sexual innuendo.
