So sorry to hear about that, Ator. But I think he IS as great of a fan as you, since I'm sure in Heaven, MST3K is playing 24/7 . . . . Thanks for the kind words.

Hi everybody. Just wandered over from the going-downhill-fast Sci-Fi board, where some of you might have known me as Minipudding. Glad to be somewhere that MST is actually being discussed.
Anyway, my first experience with MST was during one of Comedy Central's Turkey Day Marathons. I was flipping through the channels at my grandmother's house and stopped on "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians." While the family was gathering in the dining room for the big feed, I plunked myself right down in front of the TV in the back bedroom, pretty much wetting myself with laughter. I sat there well into the night, watching one episode after another, until I had a splitting headache from laughing so hard. I knew then it must be love.

A friend in high school told me about it early on in season 2. I watched faithfully every week, and finally wised up and started taping with episode 211- First Spaceship To Venus. That episode still has a special place in my heart.

Accident- I wasn't even 1 for my first MST3K episode. I saw it on KTMA thanks to my dad.
Actually I think that the first MST3K season is my first concious memory. Because recently I purchased the Crawling Hand DVD and I started freaking out (I may have had some help though) because I could remember the lame opening with the blimp, Greenish/Yellow hexifeilds and the cheap rocket effect. Of course I may have seen a Turkey Day episode in 1995 but I am almost sure MST3K is my first concious memory. Scary.
But in my rediscovery of MST3K it was on purpose. I was on the IMDb site. I was looking at the bottom 100 when Manos was still undisputed king. I clicked on it and remembered MST3K from my childhood (we didn't get Sci-Fi until last July) and I went to the video store to rent something and saw the movie. I fell in love. That is really the best introductary to MST3K. Now I am a fan on these message boards.

I was at a friend's house, and he was watching the show. He found out about it through his cousin, and I in turn found out through my friend. So I guess it was kinda accidental.

I remember seeing some of the show during the Joel era back when I was 4. Then, when I was 7, I remember every weekday, watching Saturday Night Live at 11:30 a.m. on Comedy Central, followed by MST3K at noon. I remember watching the opening and loving it, and was always interested in seeing the show, but since the show was two hours long, and since I was 7 and therefore had a short attention span, I didn't feel like sitting down and watching a show for two hours straight. I also remember seeing The MST Hour and seeing some of Cave Dwellers.
It wasn't until June of 2002, when I was 14, that I actually saw the whole show. I remember, on another messageboard I visit, reading about Mystery Science Theater 3000 from several fans which brought back memories of the show whose opening credits I saw every weekday at noon on Comedy Central when I was 7. I also remember the show being referenced on another site I went on, and that Futurama episode, where Crow and Tom Servo were shown in a theater.
So on the day after I graduated from High School, I decided to see the show. But I woke up at 10, so I missed Track of the Moonbeast, but did catch the ending which I laughed at. Finally, the next Saturday, I woke up at 8 a.m. and at 9, I saw Phantom Planet. Once Tom Servo uttered the line "Strip down. Oil up." I fell in love with the show. It wasn't until I saw Devil Fish that I became a fan, and it wasn't until I saw Invasion of the Neptune Men did I consider it the greatest show of all time. I started getting tapes in November of 2002 and have been buying more tapes from mst3kvideos.com since then.
So, yeah, it was intentional that I discovered Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Hi! I'm new! I'm also female! Just get that through your head. Anyway, the first time I watched MST3K was a minor few months ago, one Saturday morning when I was randomly flicking channels. Suddenly, I came upon a show with little people making fun of a really bad movie. The show had the wonderful title "Mystery Science Theater 3000" upon it, and, even at my severely young age. (not tellin') I heard about the show on a JTHM site or somethin'. I got hooked immediately. I, like your average civillian, thought it was hee-larious. And that's why I am here. Because the sci-fi board is filled with too much spam.

It was 1991. I was 19. I had dosed acid(what can I say, I was 19). One of my favorite things to do in those days was to watch B-movies/kung-foo theater with my buddies and tear them apart, usually after a night of hard partying (no fooling). My friends had went to a club and I just couldn't deal with it at the time. I started flipping through the channels and came across a grainy B&W movie that looked like it would be good cheesy fun. As I watched, I didn't really notice the sillouette. Luckily, it was right before a host segment, so I was introduced to Joel and the bots being their usual odd selves. In the condition I was in it was a bit confusing at first. But as soon as they went back into the theater, I was hooked. From that day on, I had friends with which I could watch really bad movies and riff on them, no matter where I lived. Thank you Joel(and Trace and Kevin and Jim) for creating something that has affected me in such a wonderful way.

For a long time I didn't have cable... (hey, great beginning for a John Updike story!! I only saw cable at Mommie's house. Brief glimpses. A quick shy after midnight glimpse at Cinemax and such and Showmoretime. Then one night on visit to said mother while surfing saw, eureka, the kind of film I wished they'd be showing all the time...some sixties flick with motorcycles (not Hellcats, but possibly Wild Rebels or Sidehackers)and I was in heaven. I love cheesy films from the 60's. But wait, lo, below the silliness yet more, two shades and the shadow of a man, doing what? Eh? Talking...what sayeth they. I listened but had to keep the sound down lest Mom know I was watching Skinamax. Heard they were quipping. Wonderful. Caught it again later. The first ep the Lost Continent. I laughed my head offeth at the quips about the endless climbing. Wanted to see more. But still no cable. Grad School. Early 90's. Teen spirit in the air. Friday nights at Jerry's watching with the others in my Grad program...Pod People and others. Went to Europe. Came back on vacation. Caught an occasional ep. Taped a few. Came homeland. MST3K had aged and so had I. bought rhinos, want to complete collection. Total fan. New wife too. Happiness. The end.

CrowJunkie. That is a LOVELY picture of Joel. Did you design it? I am also a crow junkie. I'm in the minority here. But I prefer the nerdy Crow, cuz he just sounds so goofy. ;D

For me, it was a little bit of both. My brother had told me about the show a couple of times, and I really wanted to see it. One morning, I was casually flipping through the channels and I stumbled across it. I've loved it ever since. I still remember: that first episode I saw was "Devil Fish."

GoldBootGirl, I did not design that pic. I have tons of MST3K pics, audio, icons, newsletters, etc on a disk that I have been compiling and updating over the last couple of years. If you (or anyone else) is interested, I could make a torrent of the cd image so you could download it. I have been using bit torrent for a while and have been eager to try to seed my own torrent. leave me a message if you are interested.

Well, my first MST3K experience was somewhat accidental. Back in the day, like 1990 or 1991, we first got Comedy Central and I saw the show listed in the TV Guide. I thought, hey, I like science fiction, maybe they're just showing some old movies I haven't seen before. So, I turned it there and I saw some cheesy movie, which I can't remember which it was exactly, playing. Then I heard the guys joking and I've been hooked ever since. Then they took away my Comedy Central and I had to stay up until 2:00 A.M. Sunday Mornings to watch it on a local channel when it was the Mystery Science Theater hour. I still long for those days. That was fun. So, my first MST3K was kinda accidental and kinda intentional. So, that story was basically pointless.

Mine was purely accidental. I just happened to catch the last half-hour of MST3K - The Movie when it was first shown on tv in the UK. That would have been during 1997. I heard nothing more about the show until a few months later, when the Sci-Fi channel started showing episodes every Sunday afternoon. My first full episode was The Deadly Mantis. We only ever got to see about 20 episodes (in no particular order) before it was taken off air. (If you think the Sci-Fi Channel has problems, just thank your lucky stars you don't get the British version). I managed to tape around a dozen episodes and have spent much of my spare cash since then on dvd's to build up my collection. Living outside the USA means I don't understand some of the riffs but there's still more than enough to keep me hooked.
