Which terrific, respectable, perhaps even legendary, actor would you least expect to appear in an MST3K experiment...but did? And, who gave the most embarrassing performance? (NOTE: I'm not including actresses, because, with the exception of Ava Gardner and Shelley Winters in City On Fire, no real legendary Hollywood starlet has appeared in an MST3K flick...and no, Demi Moore doesn't count! But, if I overlooked someone, let it be known! ) Here's the list I could conjure up: Nigel Davenport---Phase IV Burgess Meredith---SST: Death Flight, The Last Chase Tom Selleck---Superdome Henry Fonda---City On Fire Leslie Nielsen---City On Fire Klaus Kinski---The Million Eyes Of Su-Maru George Reeves---Jungle Goddess Cesar Romero---Lost Continent Lew Ayres---Stranded In Space Christopher Lee---Castle Of Fu-Manchu Gregory Peck---Stranded In Space Gene Hackman---Stranded In Space James Earl Jones---City Limits Basil Rathbone---The Magic Sword Martin Balsam---Mitchell Beau Bridges---Village Of The Giants Ron Howard---Villiage Of The Giants Jim Backus---Angels Revenge Roddy McDowall---Laserblast Clint Eastwood---Revenge Of The Creature Sonny Chiba---Invasion Of The Neptune Men Raul Julia---Overdrawn At The Memory Bank David Warner---Quest Of The Delta Knights Maximilian Schell----Hamlet Terry-Thomas---Danger Diabolik Any others??

Well I wouldn't consider many of them legendary, but many are respectable. But Cesar Romero?

Well I don't know how respected he is, but don't forget that unforgettable face of Mr. Jack Palance, who appeared in Angel's Revenge as well as Outlaw (of Gor). Some great host segments came from him.
And who could forget Lloyd "by this time my lungs were aching for air" Bridges.

Peter Graves in Parts and Beginning of the End? (maybe "respected" is stretching things)

How about Tia Carrere in "Zombie Nightmare"? Okay, she may not be legendary or famous but, it was embarrasing to see her in that crappy movie! Besides, I liked her in "Wayne's World" (When she wasn't singing). Oh, and don't forget Donald Pleasence in "Warrior of The Lost World" and "Puma Man"! Man, he was great in "Halloween" but, what was he thinking when he agreed to star in those movies, is beyond me!

Not to nitpick, but Gene Hackman, Richard Crenna, Gregory Peck, James Franciscus, and David Jansen (who was all but edited out of the MST version) all appeared in Space Travelers i.e. Marooned, NOT Stranded In Space. THAT was the (great, great) TV-movie episode with guys like Glenn Corbett and Cameron Mitchell.
I think Space Travelers with those cast members, had more star wattage than every other MST movie combined. And frankly, the movie is a decent one - I really MST3K committed a mean-spirited gaffe by riffing a version of it which was SO edited as to make it incomprehensible. Sort of like shooting dirty pool. Sure, it's a boring, ponderous film, but the acting - especially Crenna - is actually rather good.

Ooh, also: Lee Van Cleef, in It Conquered The World and [/i]Master Ninja I & II[/i]. And sure, Peter Graves is stiff as a board, but damned if I just don't really like him in those Mr. BIG movies a LOT. But I don't think he can go on the list.

The Rat Pack guy, Peter Lawford, in Angels' Revenge had to give the most embarrassing performance. By this point, the alcohol had obviously eaten away most of the cognizant parts of his brain (and liver, no doubt) and left him an incomprehensible little shell. Now THAT was sad. An extremely close runner up in the most embarrassing category was in the same movie in the person of Jim Backus. Unlike his performance in It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World which was sorta funny, this was just sad and pathetic. Very. And pasty white. Those are the personal worsts I see. Tho' Peck and Fonda showing up were great surprises, they weren't embarrasingly bad performances.

GAACK! Sorry, meant to say Space Travelers for Peck and Hackman...real lazy typos, there After some research, I've gotta add Lloyd Bridges, Donald Pleasance, Lee Van Cleef, Peter Graves, and Jack Palance. They were in a lot of cinematic crap, but a lot of respectable films, too. And Peter Lawford, although having a very spotty film career, definately has to be the top candidate for the most embarrassing performance. And, someone else I completely forgot about: Michael Landon in I Was A Teenage Werewolf!!

How about Kim Katrall (or however it is spelled)? I don't know if she is a respected actor, but she is the hottest 40-something ever.

I don't know about Beau Bridges being a "highly respected" actor. He did quite a bit of fluff then actual solid material. Besides, I like his brother better. Just my opinion.
