My problem with them was that most letters were from kids with their cute little drawings. I think it could give the wrong impression about the show that it was aimed at kids. The host segments always had the look of a cheap kiddie show but there was so much more. I thionk that was part of the show's charm.

"I thionk that was part of the show's charm."
I agree with ya, wholeheartedly! I love those kid letters and drawings.

I never saw the letters as being "aimed at kids", really, but I do admit that it made me more concious of the fact that this was a show that kids could/did watch frequently.

I thionk that was part of the show's charm. I agree. And I think they got some good lines in about them and from them.Like from the Crawling Hand: Joel(reading letter): Dear Crow, I like you.I laugh when you make a joke. Crow: Have I made one yet? Joel: Yes," I hope I can see you one day". Crow: Take a look, kid. Joel "Joel, someday I would like you to take apart Servo" Servo: Now, hey! Crow: Can I help? And that kids drawings were damn scary...

The host segments always had the look of a cheap kiddie show but there was so much more. It's a puppet show. In several ways it's like a warped Seseme Street episode during the host segments. Letters from kids just added to the kiddishness, even though it never left out the adults.

I always thought it was great how the show appealed to such a mass audience. I'm sure there's some of us, like me, who watched when we were 11 or 12, didn't get all the jokes, but still liked it immensely. I mean, how many shows on now, or ever, can you say have had that appeal to almost every demographic. I think it was ground-breaking and set an excellent precedence as to what TV should be.
Long live MST3K,
Servo

Here's hoping for several more DVD releases over the coming years, and for the original cast and crew to be offered a multi-million dollar salary just to put out two more seasons.

Some interesting opinions but I still think the letters were often a lead weight. "Oh look, little Johnny drew a pictue of Crow". Yeah I know, I'm bitter and jadded.

I think that at first the letters were a great idea, but as the number of shows grew you got a lot of the same things being said over and over.
It was time to let that part of the show go and move on to bigger and better things.
