Alright. I'm sending the tape out to someone. (Top secret. I'll let you know who it is as soon as they've had the chance to examine the tape and verify it as the real deal.)
I looked through my old tape collection and I noticed I had a number of KTMA episodes I taped off the TV:
Time of the Apes.
Gamera vs. Zigra (I taped this twice for some reason)
Gamera vs Barugon
Gamera vs. Guiron
The Million Eyes of Su-Muru.
A couple of opening bumpers (one to Phase IV, the other to SST Death Flight.) The episodes themselves, unfortunately, have been taped over.)
SST Death Flight (minus the opening host segment.)
Mighty Jack
Do you think anyone might be interested in these? I taped them on EP, although they're still surprisingly legible after all these years. (Still, if you own a nice copy of these movies it's a safe bet it'll be better than my copy.)
Welp, I'll keep you posted on what happens!

Please make a copy of it before you send it off. I mean, it would totally suck if the lost segment was finally found and it ended up lost in the mail or something. It's unlikely, but, still, not something worth risking all these years of searching.

Welp, I'll keep you posted on what happens! I think so, if the quality is better than what's out there now, and being 1st gen that would probably be the case (the KTMA eps in circulation are notoriously bad looking because they are a number of generations removed from the original recording). You should definitely contact Gary at www.mst3kvideos.com -- he can even transfer them all to DVD for you. If your copies are improvements, he has a 4-to-1 policy in which he'll send you 4 episodes of your choice for each improved episode you send him. (And he'll return your tapes to you after copying them.)

Welp, I've sent out the tape with the Lost Segment on it (making sure I copied it first, ). Let's keep our fingers crossed. (I'm going to keep a low profile until the tape can be confirmed. If something bad happens I'll just disappear quietly....)
**crosses fingers**
And I'll see about getting those 1st gen tapes to someone who can burn them on DVD as well....

I'd like to humbly suggest that this episode be sent to those fine folks at the MST3K Digital Archive Project (DAP). They digitize episodes and post the on their site for free downloading. These folks have been the best thing to happen to MST3K since the show ended.

I agree fully with GoFigure, somebody figure out how to get it uploaded to DAP so the most people could get the enjoyment out of this host segment as possible, without paying for the episode twice.

Hey, amethyst, I have a few questions and comments. First I'd like to say, I've been watching MST3K since I was a little kid too (and on KTMA, live in St. Croix Bch.), so I was wonder, how old were you when you made those drawings? Still live in the Twin Cities area? Do you all those VHS of episodes because you're dad kept on taping every episode to see if your artwork would appear?

Hey, amethyst, I have a few questions and comments. First I'd like to say, I've been watching MST3K since I was a little kid too (and on KTMA, live in St. Croix Bch.), so I was wonder, how old were you when you made those drawings?I was about 15. My art style was a bit primitive back then, I admit. I still enjoy drawing and I have a page on Elfwood containing my fantasy drawings (Yes, I'm an uber-geek. If my art style isn't big enough evidence to that effect, the sad portrait of me in Rennie regalia certainly is...): elfwood.lysator.liu.se/loth/d/i/dietzinger/dietzinger.html Still live in the Twin Cities area?Yes. I spent a good chunk of last year down in Chapel Hill, NC visiting friends and pursuing possible employment opportunities, but economic necessity (and the lack of said aforementioned opportunities) eventually led me back home. I'm unemployed and a graphic designer (which is, of course, redundant in this economy.) I'm planning on going back to school to learn something that I'll hopefully be able to make some actual money at.... Do you all those VHS of episodes because you're dad kept on taping every episode to see if your artwork would appear?Um. No. The official account is a bit wrong on this. I was the one who originally taped the episodes from TV. My Dad hated the show. He wanted to use the tapes that I had recorded my MST episodes on but before he recorded over them, he dubbed the Superdome segment onto a tape in our home movie library because it featured my art being shown on TV. (If it hadn't featured my art, he wouldn't have bothered to preserve it and it would've probably been lost forever.) So that's the story then... (I feel kind of embarrassed that everyone's looking at my old artwork, since it seems so crappy to me now. But oh well....) -_-

My apologies. I feel sorta responsible for that. I suppose in the wording for my site I could have made the actual events more clear. I had meant to imply that your father had kept that one segment by transferring it to another tape. I guess in all the excitement I left that bit out. I am gonna change it. The info club got their info directly from my site, so that is the reason for that. I have written Sat News with the correct story, and have also updated my website with the correct story. Sorry! I have family in Chapel Hill! My uncle is a former professor at UNC. I live a few hours North, in VA.

It's okay. No big deal. I just wanted to get da facts straight....
Virginia, eh? It's lovely country. And Chapel Hill is a gorgeous place to live. (I miss their walking trails. It's amazing. You can walk into a forest down there and not get eaten alive by mosquitos. Not like here. -_-)
I might go back down next spring if I can swing that resident artist position again at the local school down there. (And if I can get myself a better car. Don't know if the one I currently have will make it through the mountains next time...)

As one of the first fans who will be owning the Lost Host Segment I thank you (and your father) from the bottom of my MSTie heart. 16 years have passed since this thing went a'missin' and, well, you've given me up the the other losts will one day be found. I look foward to seeing your art on my tv (no need to be embarassed because, for 15, that was quite good. I think I still hadn't graduated from stick people ) and it is nice to meet one of the ORIGINAL fans of the show. Thanks again!

And Satellite News is now making the official announcement: LATEST NEWS -- October 19
LONG-LOST KTMA HOST SEGMENT FOUND For as long as MSTies have been collecting episodes, the only known existing copy of episode K15 - SUPERDOME, from the ancient KTMA days, was missing the final host segment.
Well, no longer. Longtime and devoted MSTies Lee Lovingood and Michael Slusher have managed to locate the missing segment.
It was in the possession of a Minnesota woman named Teresa Dietzinger. A fan of the show since those KTMA days, she was one of the first fan club members, and sent some artwork in to the show--which was then featured in that final host segment of episode K15. She managed to tape the episode and has held on to the tape since then. Unfortunately, her father long ago taped over the rest of the episode with family footage and such, but the final host segment remained intact, and is now in Lee's careful custody.
You can check out screen shots and a transcription of the segment at: www.mst3kcentral.net/K15_the_lost_host_segment.html
Complete versions of the episode will be available from both Mike and Lee's sites soon.I'm kinda bummed this board didn't get credit.
