I just got XM radio today, for my PC. It's great! Took less than 5 minutes to setup and get a satellite signal. I just sent in the activation, so it'll take about an hour to activate. The reception is crystal clear. It's absolutly wonder, especially since I cannot for the life of me, receive any radio service in my house. Now, I can --LordKaT

I am so jealous. But I don't need it at home. I need it at work. It used to be that where the radio was placed, I could only get 2 stations, one of which was classical music. (no offense, I like some classical musical, but not all day while I'm working). And the other station to be honest, constantly played the same top 40 songs over and over (like Coldplay, a band I find totally annoying).
I can get more stations now that I got a better boombox and moved it's location. But still, I'm totally spoiled by what I have at home. My digital cable company has these awesome commerical free music channels. I let them play all day long (my favorites are the new wave, electronica and golden oldies channels).
My boss would never let me hook up XM to a computer, as we are networked. But don't they have units that go in your car. Could the same thing be hooked up somewhere else like a boombox?

I also have the digital music on my cable system. Totally spoils me. I haven't listened to the radio since 1991 when legendary artists like Milli Vanilli, Richard Marx, and New Kids on the Block ruled the airwaves. Ick.
But with satellite and/or digital radio, I can get all the tunes I want without having to live through the dreck that passes for R&B these days.
Tell me more about XM for the computer. Is it software that you can purchase at the local Best Buy or do you download it?

I can't believe how bad commercial radio is. Maybe XM is the way to go.

The radio just plain sucks, so I just get good quality MP3's when I burn CD's (192kbps).

MP3s....when I was your age, our data files were uncompressed and we liked 'em that way!
*Waits for someone to slam him for stealing that line from a book*

Turn your crank to FRANK!
But seriously, folks....I oughtta get XM for the simple fact that I could then listen to Dr. Demento on a regular basis, as opposed to occasionally hearing it whenever I just happen to drive through a radio wave that's carrying it.

Tell me more about XM for the computer. Is it software that you can purchase at the local Best Buy or do you download it? Hey, It's a package you buy from the XMRadio partner It's current $49.99 - comes with a satellite antenna and XM receiver (both are SMALL - smaller than the palm of my hand. Stick the antenna in the general direction of the south (twards texas). Install the included software, and hook the receiver, via USB to your machine and BINGO, you've got XM radio. It's realy wonderful. I have heard about ... 2 minutes worth of commercials ALL day. That rocks. Most of the XM stations are commercial free, or mostly commercial free. Other stations, like the weather channel, ESPN Radio, ESPN news, CNN, MTV, etc ... have many more commercials, but I'm tellin ya, I love this. Now, I need to go mod the XM receiver ... maybe a blue or white LED instead of the green ... --LordKaT

Is it a monthly fee or a one-time startup?
