Yeah, about those rumors of a Volume 40 DVD set release...
Those rumors started when Mr. Lobo from Cinema Insomnia made some remarks on the Damn Dirty Drive-in (formerly the MST3k Revival League) podcast. He remarked that he had been interviewed for feature to be released on a new set of unreleased episodes, a 30th Anniversary set. I reached out to Daniel Griffith. He stated that Mr. Lobo was mistaken. He had sat down for some bonus material to be released on those Shout Factory re-issued DVDs of Rhino episodes, like Volume 9. Just thought I'd update everyone.

Well that is disappointing, but I certainly appreciate the clarification/update.

So, I guess we really won't be getting anymore new DVD sets. At least, it doesn't seem like it. With news like that, I would just keep expectations low about the April 1st episodes.

My conversation with Griffith was last year through Facebook. Things may change for this year. That conversation did not reflect the Susan Hart developments.

Yeah, things could maybe change. We still don't really know what the deal is with Olive Films either. I'm still just gonna keep my expectations low.
BTW, does anybody know what's happened with Susan Hart lately? It's been a little while since we've gotten an update. Not trying to rush anyone, but I was just curious.

No updates on the docket. The case was technically closed since last September since the settlement was announced, but they'd been updating until a final settlement was reached. The extension period expired mid-March, but nothing was filed. Either they settled out of court and didn't file notice of such, or it totally fell apart. We may never know.

Sad to hear that assumptions were made about Vol. 40, though it would explain why we never got any kind of acknowledgment of it from Shout! after all this time. I remain hopeful that they're continuing to explore what it might take to get some of the unreleased episodes commercially available, regardless of whether or not it manifests as another boxed set.

I’m just thinking. On the off chances Olive hasn’t renewed their titles, do you think Shout will still give those three episodes a chances after this year, even if it means only a three episode box set? I’m really not expecting to see Delta Knights thrown in with the mix given the fact that there seems to be just a big issue with the U.S rights that I don’t think will ever be solved.

Yeah, my working assumption regarding an Olive/Paramount Volume 40 was that the 4th disc would be something similar to "Satellite Dishes", either the KTMA host segments disc that was previously postponed/cancelled, or a collection of the missing "MST Hour Wraps". I think that even if they managed to get the Susan Hart five and the Olive three at the same time, they wouldn't split up the Susan Hart titles, they'd put them all in one box so that it's cleaner for licensing and payments. And "Delta Knights" doesn't seem to be changing status any time soon.

I've tried looking up Delta Knights, but this movie really does seem to be buried. I mean, maybe just nobody cares about it? It's probably best that Shout plays things safe, but I do wonder if anybody would even care if they released the episode anyway. Also, TCM's shop still has the three Olive films listed under the Olive brand. This might mean nothing, but it makes me wonder if they did renew their license. We haven't heard anything about Olive Films lately, but they do seem to be the most likely company to crack. I'm hoping we do eventually get the KTMA disc as well, as that would make for an excellent bonus disc.

Olive barely releases anything anymore. I can't even find when the last time they put out a new title, they do one or two re-releases a year under their "Signature" line. I would be surprised if they renewed their license on the three films, but the discs that they printed while they were licensed would take a while to sell off, so it wouldn't be immediately obvious.
Paramount, on the other hand, was notorious for years among film buffs for not licensing out their catalog titles, other than their deal with Olive, and they have recently begun licensed to other distributors, especially Shout Factory. This doesn't necessarily impact MST3k -- I believe they already have at least one volume of titles licensed from Paramount, but it was also a long time coming -- but it doesn't hurt.

I'm sure Shout is always checking in on the remaining MSTied films and is eager to get another set out (especially considering they're caught up with Rhino reissues).
I may have a lead on who owns QUEST OF THE DELTA KNIGHTS, but I gotta keep it under wraps for the time being.
