Interesting that they didn't try to shut Cheepnis down completely for selling MST3k bootlegs. That's some good will, right there.

The official MST3K Twitter account Tweeted out that they're streaming 913-Quest of The Delta Knights on Twitch, which they weren't able to do previously. Maybe they finally tracked down the rights-holder...

I was just coming here to post that. This is an interesting development.

Hopefully this means a DVD single or a VOD release in the near future.

No joke! That's fantastic news. I wish I knew in advance, then I could have recorded it. Hopefully, they'll air it again or release it on DVD. If they can show it on Twitch, then I think a DVD release of some kind is definitely possible.

To be fair, streaming rights are different than broadcast rights are different from physical release rights. Just because they can stream it free doesn't mean they can release a DVD, or even charge on-demand.
HOWEVER. The fact that they're streaming it at all indicates one of 2 things:
1. Shout tracked down the legitimate rights holder and struck a deal. 2. Shout gave up trying to find the rights holder and their lawyer okayed streaming it, because they did their due diligence in looking; but streaming it is the most they're gonna risk.

I am leaning towards they actually contacted the rights holders; the way the tweet is worded, it suggests that something actually tangibly changed, not just "We pestered our lawyer until they came up with a way to test the waters". I think it's possible that they are just doing this to see if anybody sues them, and as part of proving that they've tried in good faith, but I think it's more likely that they actually worked something out.

The episode is on ShoutFactoryTV's site now, and will presumably be streaming on PlutoTV or Tubi soon if it hasn't already. The episode is closed captioned, which definitely means they put some effort into it.

I can confirm that Shout Factory did indeed legitimately license Quest of the Delta Knights from the rights holders of the film. MST3k fan Joshua Murphy, who conducted that interview with Wade Williams some time ago, managed to find the owners of the film earlier this year. He put them in contact with Jordan Fields at Shout Factory.

So...who are these mystery people?

So...who are these mystery people? I'm not going to reveal who the rights holders are, not unless I get Joshua's permission. Probably best not to reveal, since we don't want anyone harassing these folks. Joshua Murphy found the rights holders on Facebook. Only other thing I'll mention is the people in question were credited in the film.

And so, the quest for the owners of Quest Of The Delta Knights is at an end! Seriously, they were on Facebook the entire time???
