It appears that Shout! Factory has recently acquired the rights to several Godzilla films. They're streaming for free on their website, including Godzilla Vs. Megalon and Ebirah: Horror of the Deep (or Godzilla Vs. The Sea Monster).
This probably means nothing as far as actually releasing the episodes, since Toho is very protective of Godzilla. But... well, I don't know. We'll see if anything happens.

It likely just means they struck a streaming deal with Janus Films.

Yeah, I HIGHLY doubt they went to Toho for this. Definitely calling a North American licensing deal.

So what updates do we have here? We are all to familiar with the status/situations with Wade, Toho, and Susan Hart, but the Olive collection and Delta Knights showed a promise and would make for a nice 4 set release: 416 - Fire Maidens from Outer Space 905 - The Deadly Bees 906 - The Space Children 913 - Quest of the Delta Knights Olive films are the wildcard, as stated in this thread: [Olive Films (licensed from Paramount)]: I've heard from different sources that Olive has 5-year deals with Paramount on their catalog titles (for example, THE DEADLY BEES is set to expire in 2020). The other two titles should be expiring soon or have already expired., which should be expired or expiring soon. Assuming Olive films doesn't renew their license with Paramount, this would clear the way for Shout Factory to obtain them. Do we ave any updates about Olive? From the sounds of it, the rights have expired from the original contract by now. Did Paramount renew their lease on their rights, or is there an opportunity for Shout to make something happen? Yeah, pretty much just waiting to see if Shout secured the Paramount/former Olive titles once they were available. They could call the set MST LIVES or something. Everything else (obv) is not going to happen, or not going to be possible to happen for a very long time.

As far as I know, Olive Films is still selling their three films. Must have extended the deal.

So I guess it’s safe to say the Olive stuff is gonna have to wait a little longer?

I guess. At this point, who knows when any of these are going to expire?

But are they actively making new discs or just selling out old stock? There's nothing keeping labels from selling old stock until it runs out.

Just wanted to share that Quest of the Delta Knights was added to VHX for Kickstarter backers, and you can download a nice 540p file.

Digital rights are different than physical medium rights, which raises a good question on the status of this thread: if we’re talking physical releases, then who knows what the status is with Quest of the Delta Knights. But if our end goal is simply official releases, then I think we can remove Delta Knights from the “forbidden list”.

Unfortunately Delta Knights has to be held off from a DVD release until we can get the remaining three Paramount titles on DVD to make a full volume 40….. and we have no confirmation if Olive actually renewed the rights or not (I’m sadly inclined to believe they did so we may have to wait even longer now) or if they’re just selling off what remains of the discs until they run out.

How many copies of these un-MSTied films is Olive selling? I can't imagine it would be anywhere close to what it would sell under the SF MST3K brand. I don't understand the subtleties of licensing obscure B-movies for a micro market, but clearly Olive isn't in the business of losing money. Perhaps they are simply bundled in with a whole host of other films. Seems strange that they want to keep these 3 titles away from SF.

It likely just means they struck a streaming deal with Janus Films. Yeah, the logo is still on the movies. Still, I wonder if this mean we might see the Godzilla episodes officially released on streaming services. Probably not but then again, they were able to have the Gamera episodes up even though Kadokawa would rather seem them buried.

The Godzilla episodes will never be released again. Or, if they are, Toho will issue a C&D or sue to have them quickly removed from the market, I suspect even if Shout goes through Janus. I don't think the Gamera example is particularly relevant because Kadokawa is not as litigious or protective of its monster property and films as Toho has been. (Unlicensed "public domain" copies of the Gamera films have existed on the market for decades. Toho has quickly C&D'd similar such releases of "Godzilla vs. Megalon" and "Ghidrah" in the same time frame.) It might also matter that the Gamera episodes were correctly and legally licensed by BBI in the first place whereas the Godzilla movies shown on MST3K were not.

We do know Shout went through a US office for Kadokawa when they originally licensed the XXI set and it went OOP because that office shut down and presumably the Japanese execs were less generous.
How they got the set reissued and Jiger for the new season is unknown, but they are definitely back in the Gamera business.
Godzilla's situation is Toho protecting their IP that makes them billions. And with the whole "business is war" culture of Japan, they're going to be vicious about it.
