I've gotta admit that Frasier is a bit superior to the other sitcoms out there. IF nothing else, I can say that the writers at least attempt to come up with original storylines.
And I've enjoyed a bit of what I've seen on Trigger Happy TV. A few of those things are a bit too risque for my taste, but I can't deny that they're certainly creative.

Major network sitcoms? I haven't watched any in years. Except the following:
The Simpsons. Of course, FOX isn't really a major network.
Newsradio. Hallelujah for syndication. Long live Phil Hartman! And I just can't get enough of Jimmy James.
That 70's Show. Like Happy Days, except not.
As a rule, character-driven comedies are funny. Situational and one-liner joke comedies are not. (Unless the situation is being marooned on a satellite and the one-liners are making fun of bad movies, of course).
Mrs. sampo loves Raymond & Friends. I pray for her soul on a daily basis.

Raymond....seems like everytime I flip onto that show every character is yelling at the "Raymond" that they all "love." Who named this thing?

Adult Swim is awesome. Sadly, I live in the TV programming black hole (otherwise known as the Mountain Time Zone), so Adult Swim doesn't start until midnight. Of course, for quality television like Aqua Teen Hunger Force and The Brak Show, I'll stay up. It's the BRAK show, staring me, I'm BRAK! It's the BRAK show, and I've got lots of cool guests!!!! Sorry, couldn't resist... hehe! I miss cable. I love Space Ghost C2C... that show was hilarous. And I hear Family Guy is on adult swim now? That rocks!

Brak was a guest villain on the Space Ghost Coast to Coast show from back in the mid-90s. Then Brak, Zorak, and Space Ghost hosted a variety-show/musical half hour called Cartoon Planet. Back in 2001, Brak got his own show, called The Brak Show.
More information than you asked for, but...All hail Brak!!

I forgot to mention Fawlty Towers. THAT is my favorite sitcom.

I just got the complete Fawlty Towers DVD. Great stuff, it still holds up.

I've seen one episode of Fawlty Towers, and I honestly don't know what my opinion was. I remember laughing a lot at some guy who kept thanking the main character for the opportunity to work at the Hotel, but beyond that I can't recall what it was about.
Did the "It's the Brak Show, starring me, I'm Brak-, etc." line ever actually occur on the Brak show? I assumed it did when I first heard it in This Island Earth, but I've never seen it.
Did Brak take over Space Ghost C2C in an episode or something?

Some of you mentioned Trigger Happy TV...
Trigger Happy TV was hilarious. Then Comedy Central screwed it up (big surprise there). They made an American version with unfunny people and only showed one clip per show of the funny British guy. Then they took off the original episodes. (sigh) everything that's good is taken away.

I think that was the episode that Basil gave Manuel (the guy who was thanking the main character) the day off for his birthday, and he came in all drunk. not too sure though.

Well, the guy definitely did appear to be drunk, so that's probably the one that I saw. I really should look into that show again at some point.

A lot of people are talking about how great The Simpsons is, and so I feel that I have to set myself up for lots of ridicule and personal attacks with the following statement.
The Simpsons used to be great. I actually get every new DVD set as they come out. I do however think that the show has fallen.....a lot. What used to be funny and charming all the way through is now plagued by too many cheap one-liners, too many guest celebrities, too much political humor, and too many annoying almost embarrassing jokes. There's only two laughs an episode for me these days, tops.

I totally agree about the Simpsons. It's not what it used to be. I guess it's hard to stay fresh after, what is it, 15 years? I've watched it since the very first episode when I was a little kid, and I will continue to watch it, but (in most episodes) it's a shell of its former self. And it took me a while to realize this but it's true.

I thought that about the Simpsons a year or so ago, but then I watched some of the newer episodes. They still aren't nearly as good as they used to be, but the quality looks like its on the rise. From my perspective, at any rate.
I'll be a better judge after next week's though. I hear that they're getting into some political satire (not just the usual jabbing at politicians). I always liked the Sideshow Bob one where he ran for Mayor....

I'm going to agree that "The Simpsons" is on the rise. I can only imagine how difficult it would be to keep any show fresh for 15 years or so. That is what sets MST3K apart. They managed to stay that way the entire run!
