I have a couple things to respond to. (been gone a while.)
I'm kind of glad at least some of you agree with me on The Simpsons. I thought I was going to be buried alive after that take.
Reality shows are sort of like a car wreck in my opinion. You sort of want to take a quick peak, but you feel dirty when you actually do.
Hey, VanHagar3000, no worries man. I used to be a HUGE wrestling fan. I have a WWF poster, an Edge and Christian shirt, a couple Jericho shirts, I went to a RAW and a Summerslam....but now, wrestling sucks. I stopped watching it about a year ago. I only go back once a month or so to make fun of it.
If they ever gave RVD or John Cena a decent push I might go back, but that will never happen.

I had heard that The Joe Schmo Show was supposed to be really good. I never watched it though, too busy with work.

I saw the last few minutes of the last episode where they told the guy what was going on. Made me want to watch the rest of the series.
Maybe I will now that they're rerunning it as "Mo' Joe Schmoe Show."

I had heard that The Joe Schmo Show was supposed to be really good. I never watched it though, too busy with work. It was actually pretty good. Some of the craziest stuff happening all around this one guy. It was cool to see him react in the last episode. Made waiting 8 episodes completely worth it.

SCTV was a great show. Better than SNL of the same era in some respects. Laugh In was good. The '70's Bob Newhart was great. Love Leave it to Beaver. The Simpsons occasionally tho my husband watches it so much that I've suffered overkill. Monty Python had some incredible sketches. Fawlty Towers was great. MST3K was the best ever. But notice something about this list? With the exception of the Simpsons which I rarely catch anymore, the best of tv is behind me. I too only watch the occasional sporting event on the weekend. If my tv is on any other time, I'm making DVD transfers of MST or watching one for fun. TV is dead. Long live the video collection.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It has a really goofy name, which scares off a lot of people - we should know, seeing that we watch a show called Mystery Science Theather 3000.
But really, it was one of the most (if not THE) most intelligent show on network television. Considering the crap that the networks put out, this isn't TOO hard a feat to accomplish, but it did it. LKike I mentioned above, a lot of people were scared off by the concept and the name, and it's one of those shows (like MST3k) that scares people off because of its intelligence - you have to be smart to get the pop culture references and such.
That's my two cents, heh.

The recent seasons were terrible, I admit. It sold out its image because as soon as it gained popularity, it took a dive.
But the early seasons were classic, really classic. Critically hailed with millions of fans behind it. Much of a cult type of thing.

Heh Forrest, I agree with you on both counts there.
I think Seinfeld is just an aquired taste in humor - some people think it's hysterical, some don't. Kinda like British humor, in a way.
And I LOVE laugh tracks. Absolutely hysterical.

Please don't judge it on the movie!! LMAO! The only similarity between the movie and the show is....vampires. And a girl named Buffy. Seriously.

But then again, I enjoyed Freddy vs. Jason and Bride of Chucky, so please, make fun of my views FvsJ had great action scenes and BOC was gutbustingly hillarious. Don't feel bad you like them.

I'm sorry, but comedy T.V. is just not like it was in the 80's. (showing my true age here). And it's no wonder that MST3K, the greatest comedy show ever, started back then, and then popularized in the 90's. As far as comedy of today, I can't stand shows like Friends. I don't even like looking at the overated actors plastered over every magazine. I prefer anything from the Comedy Channel, especially South Park. That show is brilliant. The show did have to grow on me, as I didn't understand the hype about it at first. I also think that Seinfeld was the last of the typical sit-com series, to be worth watching. I just like New York-style humor. And as an 80's fan, I love to catch reruns of "Three's Company". (so so sad about John Ritter).

For the most part, television will suck out your soul. Not enough substance, way to much fluff and advertising. A depressing experience I've had recently was watching a bunch of the old Thundercats cartoons - My friend and I had downloaded a bunch of them to get a fix of some good old childhood nostalgia. After seeing 3 or 4 episodes I'll never to anything like that again... part of me was hoping for Mike/Joel and the bots to walk onscreen and start tearing the cartoon to shreds The childhood memories would have been better off as I remembered them beforehand, heh...
