And Death Ray is even worse, they really pound away at the same things over and over and over (primarily the music) but that one you love? That's a great example. The music is something that keeps happening in the movie. To riff it when it happens is funny. To callback to something that is no longer in the movie, over and over, isn't funny to me. Especially when it was only marginally funny the first time. You turkey.

Giant Leaches needs more love. It’s just so damn goofy, and there aren’t that many movies out there that feature giant leach monsters are there? In regards to Village of the giants, that’s one of those episodes that most people seem to like but I can’t stand. I just think that its weak riff wise, and the movie itself doesn’t feel right for the show, even though it should. (I don’t get it either, its just my opinion.)

It's a tough call, but I went with Village. There's just something about horrific dancing that makes me happy. Even more so than ugly rednecks and giant spiders.

I.E, Johnny Longbow's stew or "I sing whenever I sing" which leaked into episodes beyond the source? I think for me personally it's the voices, if they do a voice that entertains me they can say anything. With Death it's Sam's mellow voice that turns the trick and what they are saying doesn't matter really, as long as it's mellow. With the Rowsdower's it's the effeminate Troy voice. And though they don't pull the repeated lines routine, with Sinister Urge (Gloria) and Human Dupes (Kiel) it's the same appeal, those character voices they use when delivering a line is what cracks me up. On the other end of the spectrum. I don't recall laughing at the "Toblerones" for example. In my head I don't remember hearing a vocal delivery that was funny to me. It becomes, what you said, something unfunny that keeps getting thrown in there and doesn't add to my enjoyment of the ep. And dear readers, I'm sorry for going off the beam a bit subject wise. I'm just enjoying this friendly neighborhood discussion

No need to apologize. It's a discussion board. You point about voices is why I voted for Gila Monster. I can't get enough of Joel's monster voice.

I just watched a bit of Gila yesterday (for the Update, again) and noticed Joel's Gila Monster voice was also his Dorro voice. And probably a few more characters...

Wow, a poll where I love every choice. 4 great episodes.
I have no idea what to vote for. Hm...
Do love village. How many PG movies start with a mud orgy? And follow it up with scantilly clad dancing every chance they get? Musta been rated R in its day. Plus it's got Tommy Kirk, Ron Howard, and Beau Bridges...quite a lineup you've got there Bert I. Gordon! Hm, leaning village now....
But then you've got the Hales (Barbara and Alan, who is greater?), not to mention some of the finest riffing from the scifi era (imo) because of the local nature of the setting of GSI. So really kinda leaning GSI. Plus Brett Favre just retired....did I mention woooo packers? And soooo many great one-liners from GSI. OK, spiders win the giant contest, but it was too close to call until the final tabulation.

I voted for giant gila monster. I just think its funny, what with the little gila monster running around pretending to be giant, and all the teen deaths.

I actually liked Village of the Giants. Except for the obvious, blatant exploitation, it had a very "Disney" feel to it. It seemed like a lot like the movies that Disney was making around that time, except about 50 levels below them (and it does pain me to compare Burt I. Gordon to Walt Disney). Also, it was apparently based on a story by H.G. Wells (!!) so I'm gonna have to go with it. It is one of my favorite Mike CC episodes but I tend to prefer the Sci-Fi Channel episodes.
I must admit that I have repeated a riff from Giant Spider Invasion numerous times since I first saw it: "Not a joke, but an incredible simulation."

Going with Giant Spiders in Central Wisconsin: GO PACKERS! I love this episode for many, many reasons: giant puppets wrestling with drunken, occasionally half-naked Midwesterners, giant puppets stuffing their victims up their bums, terrible lighting which allows me to just imagine whatever I want, offensive religious fundies, obligatory, yet still pointless subplots involving bored and incompetent scientists, Bill Rebane's shockingly enormous improvement as a director since Monster A Go-Go, the Brodie-to-Rebane ratio ("is just a little rich"), seductive pantsuits, "You're hittin' the BOOZE again," and, of course, the Skipper. Oh, GOD, what a movie!

I had to go with Village of the Giants. Loved the movie as a kid (partly for Joy Harmon's, uh, charms) & now love it even more because of MST. Now, if MGM would just spring for a DVD release in w-i-d-e-s-c-r-e-e-n! Though it was tough choosing between those 4 eps. I do love 'em all. Heck, I saw Giant Spider Invasion at the drive-in when it was first released (ghod, I'm old!) on a double bill with The Crater Lake Monster. It's a shame Joel/Mike & the gang never got ahold of that one!

Giant Spider Invasion...hands down. one of my all time faves. Village i watched once...i don't think i'll be doing it again anytime soon. Leeches and Gila...i like..but i just don't think they compare to the non-stop laughing i do throughout GSI...everything about that movie ROCKS.
