My son's birthday was 3 December, and here's a figure I made for him. I'm fairly happy with how it came out, The candle in the cake is lit with a yellow LED and fibre optics.

Only as a trace ingredient . . .
Actually it's a two-component epoxy putty built onto a brass wire skeleton. The cake was made from sheet styrene "frosted" with acrylic paint, and then the holly garnish is sheet plastic & model railroad fruit.

Thanks! Santa's a very forgiving subject. The old face forgives a lot of tool-markiness. I also went with a slightly cartoonish look from the start; you can't really see it in those but he's got really stubby legs. That let me get away with a few things later that would have marred a more realistic subject.
