Dunno if this has been done before, sorry if it has, and the rest of the butt-covering apologies that all the mods get tired of. On with the post. Who here likes fan-fiction riffing? For those who don't know, it's basically taking a badly-written piece of text, then inserting riffs in-between, usually said by the usual MST3K gang of Joel/Mike and the 'Bots, sometimes punctuated with Host Segments, and, provided it's done tastefully, it works very well. Just a little place to gather people's favorite pieces. A couple of good places to find them: The MSTing Mine: www.keithpalmer.ca/msting-mine/original.htmlEverything, and THEN some! Mystery Science Freezer (...? www.geocities.com/mysterysciencefreezer/MSTindex/index.htmlMy personal favorite - excellent writing, excellent references - something for everyone. Some adult content in a few, mind, but those are labelled as "lemons". Mystery Science Theater 6.7 - The Oscarfics...*shudder* Edit by MonsterX – Oh HELL no. Do not link to sexually explicit materiel. Link removed.
Ah, yes, Oscar, probably the most infamous name in fan-fiction circles, watch with mouths agape as Oscar shatters boundary after boundary of basic human decency and good taste with some horrific cat-on-human (if you can call him that) action, getting mocked every step of the way. Reader discretion advised, although thankfully the REALLY nasty stuff has been edited out with some clever in-theater hi-jinks. Enjoy, hopefully!

When you've got as low a tolerance for bad spelling, bad grammar, OOC nonsense, and fragile egos as I have, you'd seldom read fan-fic either. However, the one fan-MSTing I have read made me laugh till tears rolled down my face. It's the MSTed version of the infamous "Eye of Argon."Un-MiSTed version here. "Grignr?"

Hobbesluigi, you should get a kick out of this - I remember that the old UExpress Calvin and Hobbes message board had a group of posters who did a series of fic-MSTings based on some of the worst C&H fanfiction ever written. I just wish I could find them again, since I read them in 1999 and I couldn't really appreciate them the way they were meant to be appreciated (I had no idea what MST3K was at the time).

Oh man, I love Megane 6.7's stuff! But you shouldn't single out the Oscarfics (though they are definitely the crown jewels of his Mstings), his other stuff is pretty good too. I personally love the Thinkerfics and the Shorties. Mystery Science Freezer is great too - I think "Life's Surprises" and "New Beginnings" are my favorites. Umm, the only thing I have to add that hasn't already been mentioned is this Msting of The Project. The original fanfic is an attempt to crossover the X-Files and our very own MST3K, and not in a humorous way, either. If you ever wanted to see Joel reduced to a little ball of melodramatic angst, here's your chance!

Naw, damnit, that sounds great, too. I'll have a hunt round Google. Cheers for the heads up. And Captain Hygiene, I once wrote one, and asked for it to be MSTed. Only now do I share your sentiment as well. And Robyn - dunno why, I just couldn't get on with those two. My favorites are "Violence Aimed Even At Preschoolers", so well written it could well have been an actual show script: >"but violence is being sold to children much earlier, even to the preschool set."
Tom: Duplo presents: The "NRA 'Packin' Heat'" Assortment! and "Scooby Did!", which has my favorite non-MST3K riff ever - Tom: "Is this guy trying to reserve himself an entire wing of Hell?!" Violence Aimed Even At Preschoolers: www.geocities.com/mysterysciencefreezer/MSTindex/violence.htmlScooby Did! (Don't mind losing your child-like obliviousness of cartoon-beastiallty in written form or your remaining shred of hope that sickos who write this crap didn't exist for the sake of some damn good riffing? Click away!): Edit by MonsterX – Oh HELL no. Do not link to sexually explicit materiel. Link removed.

Somebody please invent time travel to stop me from having read this. Well, it wasn't slash or anything, it was just really really bad. I vividly recall one story that somehow involved Mr. T.

All apologies for the risky content of a few of those links, guys. Got carried away. And cheers to Monster X for the heads up and move to Crow's Art, despite the fact it means that this topic will now get zilch views. Won't 'appen again, guv. Honest. Anyway: Mr. T?!

I used to be somewhat active in the MSTing scene. It's a shame to see it pretty much petering out now. I really miss Website Number 9 - anyone else that remembers that glorious site should know why too. A few links I'm surprised never came up: Everything Which Is Crap The final incarnation of the long-lived Shinji's Vault of Anime MSTings. 12 years of updates...that's longer than I've even had net access. The Stephen Ratliff Misting Archive A complete collection of Marrissa MSTings, and also some very notorious non-Star Trek MSTings. I highly recommend the Peter Guerin Daria fanfics, and not just because I suffered through the group MSTing process that required reading them multiple times. The Sisto Files Scroll down to the Jen White collection - a variety of MSTings using the Space Ghost Coast to Coast cast, in text and comic form. Jim Gadfly's MST3K MiSTing page I never read them all, but I can't tell you how many times I've been able to derail *serious* discussions of VEHMT with a link to his riffing of it. And if anyone ever wants to see what I wrote in high school, my MSTings are kind of spread out now, but here's what I did. Darians untold Temper, which I did in middle school, and Love Bites, a Weird Al fanfic (shudder) that I led a group riffing on. The Guerins I contributed to are in the Ratliff archive, but I won't direct link them to err on the side of caution for the board rules.

Wow, thanks a lot - I was looking for more of the Ratliff stuff, I appreciate it - and I had read the Love Bites one - great stuff. Hmm...I've been practising on a few things lately, and I might just start doing some of my own MSTs...upload it to something and then link it here or somesuch. Anyone else considering getting on the MSTing scene again? Maybe we can make some sorta place for these, or a group MSTing?

I've been working on a MSTing myself, and didn't really know what to do with it other than posting it (in short bursts) here. What's the most active of the sites that still host them?

I've always had a fondness for MSTings. Some of the first things I ever wrote while in high school were fanfic MSTings. I used to have several up at Web Site Number 9 or whatever the archive of the day was. When it went down, it pretty much took them with it though. (Probably a good thing, as I doubt anything I wrote that many years ago would look very funny to me now).
It is too bad they've sort of disappeared from the scene. I know a lot of popular fanfic sites that used to host MSTings, took them down because people would complain so much at having their stories riffed.

I find some funny Riffing based fan fictions are found at Lefty's MSTing site...thing... Located here: www.svamcentral.org/MSTings/index.htmI found 'Sailor Scouts meet Chris' a really funny one. Though, I felt like a bad person afterwards. If you read it you'll know why. Also, I know someone whom allegedly knew Oscar. He was in an Anime Fan Club with him and actually proof read his now infamous fic. Or proof read something, I don't remember. He doesn't like to talk about it. Anyway, he said the last he heard of Oscar was that some of the other's in the group were going to go 'take care of him'. So...Yeah. That makes me feel sorry for the poor bugger.
