OK sampo I saw your post on CD rotation and you mentioned The Cars. You think Bob Dyan is a bad singer? I have two words for you. Ric Ocasik Unless you were being sarcastic about liking The Cars. Are you giong to tell me that Ocasik is a good singer? He talk sings more than Bob.

Well, at least more than half the time. Servo

Maybe I have super human hearing but I can understand Dylan's lyrics the majority of the time. But then again I am........ THE PHANTOM ENGINEER!

Do you guys remember an SNL skit from around '86 where they had Dylan (impersonated) on the news mumbling away. And then they said "For the Dylan impaired we have Tom Petty to translate" and then he (impersonated) came out and started mumbling away. It was hilarious.

Oh yeah!!! I forgot all about that. That was hilarious. Almost as funny as John Belushi doing Joe Cocker. Now that was outrageous.

Vocals are usually the last thing I listen for when enjoying music. As an instrumentalist and songwriter myself, I mostly focus on the musicianship and songwriting. However, since you asked...
(these are just off the top of my head, just rock and roll, and are in no way representative of an "all time greatest" list)
John Fogerty of CCR Don Henley Sting (when he sings in his range, not howling like in "Roxanne") Corey Glover of Living Colour I also like good harmony vocals like the Beatles or ELO
And I will never try to defend Ric Ocasek. Benjamin Orr (the bassist) sang the best Cars songs anyway. I only mentioned them as representative of fun 80s music.

OK sampo, just because I'm petty, vindictive and don't let things go I have to comment. Dylan mumbles. And you mention John Fogerty of CCR. Yeah, he's real clear. One of the more famous misunderstood lyrics is from Bad Moon Rising. " There's a bathroom on the right" (There's a bad moon on the rise). Your argument falls apart. Silly human!

You're right.
You are petty and vindictive.
But I kid.
I like how Fogerty's voice fits the music of CCR so well. Plus I like how a bunch of San Francisco boys convincingly sound like they're from Louisiana. And clarity isn't so much the issue as melody and grit. Fogerty just has a great rock and roll voice. Dylan sounds like he's bored.
Of course, everyone's mileage may vary, and we're way off topic (my fault). To echo Servo's comments above, at least we're both listening to rock and/or roll.
