That is actually a great question. I guess it makes them look tough or something. I'll occasionally do that, if my throat is clogged up or i've got a bad taste in my mouth, but I don't do it as a habit. Maybe they use chewing tobacco?

Actually Bush is a baseball man. Maybe he learned how to spit while owning the Rangers. Thank God he didn't scratch himself on the white house lawn. Even Clinton had the dignity to do that in the Oval Office.
I can't believe I just used the words Clinton and dignity in the same sentence.

I've read somewhere it is a subconcious way to mark territory.
