LOL Bob Johnson. I'm not gonna spend the time to write out the reasons why it sucks, so I can't be that dumb. You don't even know me, and don't know how to take a joke you walked into. Friends ?

Obviously any show on television that has millions of viewers is going to have some redeeming qualities, but I can certainly tell you why I personally hate Friends.
First of all for me the show tries way too hard to be emotional, when this is the last thing I want out of a light hearted comedy. When I want emotion I listen to music normally speaking. When I want emotion that's as fake and forced as they show on Friends, I can always watch an number of MST3K movies. The Brute Man for instance. It would be unfair to say that this makes the show bad, because different people like different things, but in my view all of the emotion played out in the show is terribly phony and has that same awkwardness that the "rolling-around-in-the-grass" scene had in the Episode II of Star Wars.
The show simply isn't funny. The guy who plays Chandler, (Matthew Perry?) has good delivery at times, but the lines are so bad that it doesn't really matter. Phoebe, Ross, and Joey are all equally obnoxious in my opinion, and would be much more entertaining in a horror movie because then you could look forward to the characters eventually being killed off. Monica and Rachel do nothing for me. Not funny, but not annoying. They're just there.
Marriages, babies, and constant relationship shifts. This is not comedy, it's a soap opera.

Maybe Friends IS a good show. Who knows? I don't like any sitcoms (except Fawlty Towers), and because of this, I don't watch the shows. I actually DID sit down and watch a couple episodes a while ago, and I probably cracked a smile once or twice. It's not for me. I'm not gonna say "It IS bad", rather "I don't enjoy it."

This is not comedy, it's a soap opera.100% correct, it just doesn't get anymore true than that. That is exactly what I was thinking.

Seinfeld wasn't that bad. At least it didn't try to be emotional. I hated the backwards episode and the series finale, but I find the show entertaining generally speaking.
I hate when the "i before e" rule fails....

Forrest, Seinfeld was really the only good show on back then IMO. I agree with you on Friends and the rest of the crappy sitcoms on t.v. But when has t.v. ever been consistantly good? Never. Is Seinfeld overrated? No doubt about it.

That doesn't make you weird. You just have different sense of humor. I'm not to crazy about Seinfeld's stand up act either.

I agree with that. Joel was not meant to be a standup comedian.

My biggest problem with Seinfeld's stand up is that his whole shtick seems to be complaining about petty things in that whiny voice. But at the same time that's sorta what made the show funny. Making a big deal about nothing in particular.
As far as Joel goes, I've never seen his stand up and I don't want to. Looks way too much like a Carrot Top act from only the commercials I've seen. That's probably an unfair thing to say, but I can't see prop-comedy EVER being funny.

Home Improvement was pretty bad. Watch just one episode of Charles in Charge. I guarantee you'll change your mind. Now that was the worst sitcom ever.

I agree with Forrest; Seinfeld is really overrated. I enjoy his standup somewhat but once again is really overrated. But I can't see how you can diss Joel. I mean I bust a gut everytime this guy does standup. Maybe it's because he's like just another stoner friend but I can't stop laughing when he's on stage. He may have stuttered and stamered some but that was a nice quality to me as it didn't seem as forced and completly rehearsed, it almost seemed like he was coming up with it as he went along. But make no mistake I usually hate prop comics, just guys like Joel, Amazing Jonathan and sometimes Penn & Teller (Penn should've stuck to comedy and gotten his bullhorn voice away from This is MST3K). Well they all do magic maybe that's it.

I know. That was pretty harsh. I guess I've learned that even in the process of making a point, you can hurt a lot of people and there's nothing that's worth doing that. I compared an innocent man to Carrot Top with no real grounds for doing so. What I said was wrong, and I'm sorry for it. I'm sorry, and it will never happen again.
I only hope you can all forgive me one day.

I see no reason to. Carrot Top is nowhere near as good as Joel. I'd rather watch 3 years straight of Joel standup, than 3 days straight Carrot Top. However, I still think there are simply much better comic magicians, and better standups in general. Joel pales in comparison to The Amazing Johnathen. I realize that Joel's humor is a bit out there, much like Andy Kaufman. But that odd humor is what gave birth to an idea as original MST3K. And Josh, I'll just have to take it one day at a time, one day at a time.
