Plus, I've offered him hundreds for the tape or digital file at least thrice. He hasn't asked about getting paid or even acknowledged that I've offered. I think this alone makes it safe to say it's not a scam. If he doesn't at least believe this to be K03 it would be a very weird scam or practical joke on someone.

I can't wrap my head around the notion of an MST3K fan in possession of such immaculately labeled tapes for decades, yet not having any knowledge of just what it was they had, nor how badly it was wanted by the community. Nothing presented indicates that the boxholder was a fan of the show. The boxholder wasn't even aware of what episodes were there. Very likely the boxholder has some sort of connection to someone at BBI and was given an assortment of tapes as a present - or it was originally a contract to digitize materials. It is interesting that Alex's cousin, the fan, has been holding this for around 4 years without saying anything and it seems like only recently got around to digitizing it. Let's remember the pandemic may have gotten in the way of any plans he had for it. But the fact that Alex posted the reveal as an anonymous tweet, not in some fan space and not even actually stating what it was leads me to think that he at least believes this is really K03. I'm just wondering if Alex has actually seen the episode or only his cousin has.

If those tapes were done in the Mallon in control of MST3K.com era I wonder if there's any chance this tape is one that got sent to somebody for digitizing and never got returned.

Well whoever this came from didn't have K01 or K02 so no one has a complete collection.
As cool as finding this episode would be actually finding it will take away some of that magic of always being searching for something.

I don't really think they can. The "haters" aren't a monolith. Each one has a different opinion of why the show doesn't work now. But in general it comes down to the show isn't how I remember it when I most loved it. Neither side can go back in time to make episodes exactly how they were at any certain point in time so I think it's time for viewers who aren't enjoying it to move on.

There’s that one statement there, " may have opened up some new conversations about potential partnerships and fundraising," emphasis mine, that the official forum has seized upon as some sort of not-over-yet thing and calls to do it all again in "a couple of months" (!) with a better plan, and such. I think the biggest impediment to any sort of partnership/outside funding is Joel himself. He would have to relinquish some control of the show and have a boss again. He seems to have demonstrated that that is something he very much does not want to do. Assuming they haven't actually gotten in debt the question becomes is he willing to pass on at least some control.

So. Five people working full-time for six months on the fundraiser (and to be fair, the MST3Kon job) and that's what they came up with. I'm probably being too generous but I do think a major problem that created such a poorly run campaign is that they simply didn't consider at all that this would be anything but another record breaking fundraiser so they made no contigencies at all for this situation. They may have had plenty of "Good news we're doing so great!" updates ready to go that were simply never sent out because of the reality.

Wonder if one can pledge 2 cents... $2 was the minimum.

So is Joel going to do another grouchy interview saying "I guess the fans didn't want it, so we won't do it anymore."? He'll have an interview with a new revisionist history explaining that it was his idea to end the series while it was on top before the audience got bored.

I'm assuming a bunch of people are upping their pledges or grabbing some of the bigger rewards, expecting them to fail and not be on the hook. They better HOPE that happens. Because if the platform allows them to collect what they've pledged up to... It probably won't happen. But if it does... I don’t understand the point of that. Hoping it will stimulate people on the fence? It’s not like they can magically make the season of a significant number of pledges fall through. Bragging rights about how much they were willing to spend if only all the other true fans came through.

Mine says 32 hours left, so that's...2am early on Sunday morning. Or 3, if its rounding down. Its not the best system. There's no rounding. It's just showing the hours without minutes. It was at 33 hours just before 6 while I was looking.

Wait... was the end date for the fundraiser always "November 26, 2:59 AM?" Huh...
I think they already extended it.
I was thinking it's a time zone thing. But yeah it says 33 hours which is 2:59 AM EST on 11/26. Did they really extend it three hours? That has to be a glitch somewhere. I'm in EST. I'm definitely not forgetting to change the time to match it. Wait, 3 AM EST is midnight Pacific which does make sense. Has DK subtracted three hours instead of adding three hours this whole time?

How long would this extension even be for? A few more days wouldn't make up this huge gap unless the goal is also drastically dropped. Plus you can really only do this once without it dragging on. Months? Do they expect current backers to start giving their entire paychecks or will they actually start campaigning? Or just keep it open indefinitely until the goal is hit?
If they really do this it sounds like outright craziness. It's not even close.

I'm thinking the real reason they magically found all that extra bloat is because they did already pay for the rights of those six movies and they don't want to lose money. It obviously would be a very problematic solution but I can imagine them deciding that whatever's earned tomorrow night is the magic number then cutting out the shorts and surgically enchanced episodes trying to explain how those were stretch goals.

And being slightly generous they need to raise $760K per day over 2½ days.
