After watching "Mars Needs Women" last night, I feel compelled to toss in Mr. Buchanan for consideration for worst director ever. I must admit that he squirted out many movies over the years and I've only seen a few. Mars... moves at a pace that would make Coleman Francis proud. And I have never seen a movie where so much time is spent looking at a speaker on the wall. And they might have been the best scenes. And what a lame ending!! On the strength(?) of "Attack of the the Eye Creatures," featured on episode 418 (a personal fave) and "Mars Needs Women," featured nowhere; I respectfully submit Mr. Buchanan.

Joel wanted that one sooo bad. There's an interview with him, taken between the end of KTMA and before they had sealed a deal with CC. He called it the perfect MST movie or something to that effect.
They must have never been able to get the rights.

That might've been just the problem. It's a cult movie that's only slightly less well-known as "This Island Earth", so there's some actual value to holding on to it.

Oh but as a film "This Island Earth" is WAY better than "Mars Needs Women" , don't you think?

Definitely. This Island Earth wasn't really a bad movie, it just had a lot of cheesey moments. But widespread knowledge about something isn't truly an example of quality. I mean, I'm aware of the existence of the Al Qaeda, but I still prefer the existence of the Las Vegas Police Force.
