And now, a list of all the Zork games, in chronological order!
1-Zork 2-Dungeon (same as Zork, but expanded and renamed) 3-Zork (Same as Dungeon, but expanded and renamed) 4-Zork 1: The Great Underground Empire (no longer a mainframe game) 5-Zork II: The Wizard of Frobozz 6-Zork III: The Dungeon Master 7-Enchanter 8-Sorcerer 9-Spellbreaker 10-Wishbringer 11-Beyond Zork: The Coconut of Quendor 12-Zork Zero: The Revenge of Megaboz 13-Return to Zork 14-Zork Nemesis 15-Zork: The Undiscovered Underground (which was a very small, downloadable, promotional game designed to promote...) 16-Zork: Grand Inquisitor
Now, the astute fan will notice a few things being left out.
A-I didn't include The Lurking Horror. While it's true that the game takes place in GUE Tech, everything else about the game screams that it doesn't take place in the Zork Universe. I mean, references to the Civil War? Coka-Cola? Clearly Earth, or a close approximation. B-I left out all the fan made games. I mean, don't get me wrong: Enlightenment was a brilliantly designed and hilariously written game. And Zork: A Troll's Eye View was a fun curiosity. But there's just too many of them. C-Other Infocom games have Grues. Having a Grue doens't make it a Zork game, though. I'm sorry, Planetfall is clearly not Zork.
