An entire season in one release? That's 24 disks! You know how expensive that would be!

I wonder why BBI just didn't have a contract with all the movies that they showed that said "If you let us use these movies, then we can air them or distribute them as we please." If only BBI did that, we'd have entire seasons released at once. To the best of my knowledge, they couldn't because broadcast rights are different than distribution rights. With broadcast, the network foots some of the bill and gets a cut of broadcast profits. With video/DVD distribution, the distributor (in this case, Rhino) is now in the equation for investment/profit. Plus, some of the eps were produced by folks other than the original copyright holders (folks like Film Ventures or Sandy Frank). So not only are you negotiating about 2 different rights issues, you have 2 different groups with a stake in the copyright. All that to say, there's no way that BBI could have just "purchased" the rights from the filmmakers to do what they wanted with these films in any format. But that doesn't excuse Rhino from sitting on the Public Domain eps.

24 discs IF they released it in the current format they do have to release 24 discs. If they released two episodes on one side (They SORT of did it with Eegah) and two sided dics (which they've done multiple times), they could release an entire season in one six disc set.
I'm sorry, but I'll have to take the Johnny path and say...I DON'T CARE! Unless RHino gives me some extras, this makes no difference to me Castle Forrester or MST3KVideos could probably give me nearly the quality (if they kept selling), and knowing Rhino probably better quality in some instances. I don't care what episodes are released unless it's the first three.

And they've done very little of that compared to the standard that has been set by other TV show releases.

Is it possible that they could release a KTMA ep or parts of a KTMA ep as an extra, like what they did in the scrapbook tape? I don't see why not...

They could realease the KTMA host segs if they wanted to. Those belong to BBI. But I don't think they want to. I don't believe they're too eager to do that. But a complete ep is quite unlikely.

Is it possible that they could release a KTMA ep or parts of a KTMA ep as an extra, like what they did in the scrapbook tape? I don't see why not... The only P.D. KTMA episode is Hangar 18. They could release that if they wanted too. But like Phantom said the brains are not really in a rush to release those episodes anyway. If you want to see more about P.D. Mst3k episodes here is Van Hagar's list. www.geocities.com/vanhagar3000/MST3K_PDlist.html?200527

Is it possible that they could release a KTMA ep or parts of a KTMA ep as an extra, like what they did in the scrapbook tape? I don't see why not... The problem with the KTMAs is that they were never originally legally obtained for riffing. The KTMA station simply liscensed the movies (after they lost the rights to other moives, and bought pretty much the bottom of the barrel) and then MST3K used them. My guess is they rather not bring it to the attention of anyone that they illegally used their films because they've stayed off their radar long enough. That's probably why we haven't heard anyone suing Best Brains, but it's also probably why we haven't seen anyone at BBI eager to release a KTMA ep. That's just my guess though. Yes, Hanger 19 or 18, or whatever hanger it is is PD from what I can tell.

They did release a few scenes from Phase IV on the Scrapbook Tape but maybe they got away with that by being under the radar also. I wonder if that would impair the use of the scrapbook tape as a DVD extra.

There is some sort of law that allows a fraction of a clip to be show (like less than 10 seconds or some percentage of the movie) which is why Godzilla vs. Megalon can be used during the opening credits of DVD releases of Joel episodes.

I wonder why or *when* Rhino will release their Summer Blockbuster Review specials or even the Making Of MST3k episode. I'm surprised that I haven't seen them floating about. Was anyone else rather dissapointed at "The Essentials" release? Maybe it's just cause, though a classic, Manos isn't really a favorite. Atleast they did have the special bloopers on the disc.

I don't know about the Summer Blockbuster Reviews. It's possible, because either A) the clips are short enough they don't enfringe of copyright laws (doubt it), B) they'll liscense most of the clips since it's only clips of the movie, and the Hollywood studios don't really care (maybe). However, honestly, I don't see it happening.

I would not be surprised if they put "Play MSTie for me" Or whatever you call the music thing on some future set.
