Hi everyone,
Universal has announced that they're going to release THIS ISLAND EARTH on DVD on 8/29.
What makes this good news is that there may be a chance of getting MST3k: The Movie reissued on DVD too. Since both titles were apart of the stupid Image/Universal/whatever squabble that put them out of print years back.
I'd suggest that we try to write/email/call Universal's DVD people and let them know we want it back! (WITH the deleted scenes too!)

But you're right...if this film is going to make it out of Litigation Hell then perhaps our favorite Gramercy film will too

It would be kind of funny if they placed MST3K the movie on it as an extra, just so they wouldn't have to waste precious discs just for a cult movie they probably forgot they had.

Yeah...that a good idea, Universal. No one here would buy one once they have the other....put them in a set like the "Legacy" sets you made for the Classic Monsters.

I tried e-mailing them once about The Movie....got a very nice form e-mail back. Your basic "We value your opinion....but we'll do whatever the hell we feel like. Now, just give us your money."
Google "Universal Home Video" if you want to try.

Wait a minute, how does this make MST3K any more likely than before? I wasn't aware there was ever a problem with releasing This Island Earth on DVD. Anyone wanna fill me in?

Wait a minute, how does this make MST3K any more likely than before? I wasn't aware there was ever a problem with releasing This Island Earth on DVD. Anyone wanna fill me in? Universal made a deal with Image Entertainment allowing Image to mass produce a certain number of movies they own as DVDs - MST3K: The Movie and This Island Earth among several others I don't know the names of were all included in this contract. When Image released the movies, Universal had some kind of problem with what they were charging for them and filed a lawsuit. The judge hearing the case issued an order that all of the titles mentioned in the contract had to be withdrawn from the market and kept off until the case was settled. Now - since one of the titles is being re-released - it's fair to assume all of the movies in dispute can be re-released.

I think that This Island Earth and MST3K should have been released together, as a set. And This Island Earth should have been in widescreen.
