The collection of episodes was a pretty big screw-up on their part. If you're going to delay the set several times and 3 months, the least you could do is include 4 excellent episodes. The best episode in this set is The Ring of Terror, with the Horrors of Spider Island coming in a distant second. Tormented and The Indestructible Man didn't even finish the race.

I personally thought that Horrors of Spider Island was the worst in the set. I thought Tormented and The Indestructible Man was hilarious. I had already owned a copy of Horrors of Spider Island and have always thought it was a weaker episode. But yes The Ring Of Terror is the bes tone in the set.

I have to agree with ashkenaz besides HoSI, the set was pretty darn good
not a screw up at all.

Ring of Terror was the first one I pooped in and loved it, my favorite episode from the set. Much clearer then my older copy. When I'm in a sleazy mood Spider Island does fit the bill. Tormented and The Indestructible Man are solid episodes in my book also, one set that I will watch many times like my other ones.

Decent set... Tormented and HoSI were still pretty good. Ring of Terror was hard to sit through the first time, but I watched it again yesterday and it's starting to grow on me. Indestructible Man wasn't bad, just unmemorable. Video quality was all-around good; no complaints.
Couple of other things I noticed. Firstly, I was surprised that every disc's main menu featured music that was actually from their respective film! Usually it's just stock music (except for a few of the single discs such as Manos). This is the first box set I've purchased since Vol. 7, so I was a bit saddened when J. Edgar Hoover didn't pop up at the start of each disc. When did the older, funny FBI warning leave?

When did the older, funny FBI warning leave? It's still there; they just moved it to after the episode.

I know they moved the warning to the end of the show, but (at least on my copy) it's a standard blue FBI warning instead of J. Edgar Hoover. EDIT: It looks like this:

Oops, I don't have Vol. 11, so I just assumed it was the same as the last couple of Volumes.

Actually, the "complete episode" would be if they kept "Turn Down Your Lights (Where Applicable)" from 201-403 and the Reel 1 cards from 404-519. I still don't know why Rhino's never included them. ...or the "spaghetti balls" and Gizomonic Institute dioramas between commercials. Some Rhino's have them, others don't.

Also, if I'm remembering correctly, the music over said transitions has been mixed up (i.e. the simpler Joel-era instrumental during a Sci-Fi episode. The theme song music had been re-recorded for Season 7 onward.) EDIT: The giveaway here is the more complex twangs towards the end of the song in the Season 7/Sci-Fi version

I think Rhino used to cut those things out to make each episode look more like a movie, without periodic interruptions. Somewhere around Volume 6 or 7 or so, I guess they finally realized that everybody already knew that MST3K was a TV show, so they just left the bumpers intact. It's a shame they cut them out in the early releases, because we lost a lot of the unique bumpers from the Season 5 and 6 episodes that way.
