...anyone else watching the French audio track? Makes me want to understand the language as it's obvious that they've added a lot of jokes becuase, let's face it, a lot of the original riffs are English/American specific. They even break into a French song! Tom sounds a bit pompous and annoying and Crow sounds like a lusty freedom-fighter.
Oh, and the subs for the hearing impared are intense! Wall-to-wall words. I suppose the deaf are used to it though (or not).

Trust me: the french track is AWFUL! I expected some differences, but this is ridiculous! They scrap easy to translate jokes altogether and add new ones that aren't funny at all. Some of the humor is very juvenile and dumb. Some examples? Why here you go!
- When Cal and Joe unpack the interositer, Servo makes "CRUNCH" noises. In the dub, they also make crunch noises, but mostly fart sounds.
- When Exeter orders Cal to take a part of the Interociter, Servo says "Throw it at Joe really hard." This becomes "I hope this is not an accordeon!"....What?!
- After Cal's plane turned green, both men walk to their office and Mike and Servo impersonate them: "So was being green fun?" / "I don't want to talk about it anymore!" This becomes: "What was the deal with that green cloud anyway?" / "The Incredible Hulk sneezed I think!" They almost never impersonate the characters as well.
- When Cal, Ruth and Gilligan's Island Professor discuss in the lab, Mike's "Sissy cat. I could take you too!" becomes "That cat is back. I hope he won't barf on us again!"...right, clever....
Also, they try to hard to do funny voices, but they just come off as obnoxious and it gets very annoying! It was made in France and I'm french-canadian, so maybe that's why I don't really get the jokes, but nonetheless, that translation is horrible IMO!

The VHS had closed-captions too. Just FYI.
If I don't get this for Mother's Day, I'm buyin' it.

That's actually really interesting, I've always wondered how translated humor like this would work out. Thanks for writing it down.

There are some good efforts in the French track though: For example, when we see the first shot of inside the "View-Master", Mike says "Yeah, this is when science didn't have to have any specific purpose!" In French, he says "Wow, they went really cheap with this year's Christmas window display!"

Okay, I want an entire transcript of the French version's riffs, cause seriously, those few that thebutcher put up are hilarious! Not because they're funny jokes, but because they're so absurd and poorly done that it would end up being funny again. Kind of like in Hobgoblins when M&TB are cardboard cutouts in the theater. Their riffs are like, "Boy, this sure is a bad movie, won't you?" Except now that joke is an hour and a half long.

Ah, "Euro-humour". Yes I know I'm European but it's a reluctant European. These jokes just don't help the cause for a single European state at all!
It would be interesting, mildly of course, to see what the German track was like on that version that came out there a while back. Contrary to popular opinion Germans are actually kind of funny, definitely more so than the French.

^Didn't a German comedy duo dub the film into their native language?

I'm glad that I wasn't the only one curious about the French translation, especially since MST3K is a regional thing and not nearly as popular outside of the North America.

I'm suprised no one besides me has noted how improved the logo they used is compared to the cheap looking one in the version we've all seen online.

Contrary to popular opinion Germans are actually kind of funny, definitely more so than the French. There have been a couple of clips from this posted on YouTube. There is also a quote or two in the old thread about it. It sounded funny from the clips I saw, but what do I know? I don't speak German! Hey, amazingly enough, there was still a clip that hadn't been removed. www.youtube.com/watch?v=UH3_neZHNUE
