Joel is apparently about to appear on The Dennis Miller Show to discuss CT. Miller just explained that MST was his favorite show, and that he always wanted to be a guest riffer but was afraid to ask. Opinions of Mr. Miller vary these days, but he's a smart, eclectic guy and it makes sense that he'd be a MSTie. The show is streaming live right now at www.dennismillerradio.com, and the Joel interview will probably be available as a podcast or stream afterward.

I definitely liked Miller more when he had his old HBO show. Now he's shilling for Bill O'Reilly? That's beyond sad.
I also seem to remember reading something about Miller chastising the MST3K crew for their treatment of Marooned (Space Travelers). Other than that, yeah, he does seem like he'd be a fan. He's certainly a fan of obscure references.

He's certainly a fan of obscure references. I don't think it was their treatment of Marooned, but rather that he thought they were kind of selling out by doing a 'good' movie. But from everything I've read he was a big fan.

And interestingly, Miller actually told that story about meeting the Brains from his perspective, and he didn't mention Marooned at all. His version is that he had a really bad show, was in a rotten mood, then met the MST guys which he enjoyed. Then he read the episode guide where Kevin describes their awkward meeting and felt bad about it in retrospect.
The interview with Joel was pretty good. Joel had his rear thoroughly kissed (Miller told him that he and Stephen Wright are the two biggest geniuses in stand-up).

Yeah, Kevin Murphy had a section in the ACEG where he describes their experience meeting Dennis Miller. Not much fun. Kevin was evidently still had a bit resentment about it, at least at the time of writing.

It seems like it could very easily just have been a misunderstanding. Why would he have Joel on if he didn't like the show? Either way, I'd like to have heard this interview.

It was another section of the show prior to the interview. He didn't talk to Joel about it, he just told the story in anticipation.

I fiddled around with their podcasts and isolated the interesting stuff. Here's the story about meeting the brains, and here's the Joel interview. Miller is kind of annoying in both clips because I don't think he listens very well. But it is nice to hear a perspective on that story from the ACEG and to hear Joel get some exposure.

Dennis sure was funny...15 years ago.

I never thought he was funny, but if he's a MSTie he can't be all bad. I guess the important thing is the exposure Joshway mentioned -- this can be nothing but good for CT.

Thanks for putting that up Joshway. I wish Dennis didn't interrupt Joel so much while he was talking though. But then again, I could listen to Joel talk uninterrupted for days on end! I suppose that's not really conducive to a podcast though.

Thank you for posting Joshway. Not a Miller listerner, but I've always admired his humor.
He struck me as very sincere.

That was cool. Thanks for posting.
That sounded a lot like the Dennis of yesteryear. His HBO show was great. I really wish he would have continued along that track.
