I've never been as disappointed or as angry watching an Oscars as I was this year. I had seen all 5 nominees in the theater, and thought Forrest Gump was the most overrated pile of crap ever. The problem was, at the time, I was the only person I knew who had seen "Shawshank", so no one believed me that it should have won.
I feel vindicated ten years later. Of course, Pulp Fiction and Quiz Show were both worthy candidates, as well. Either film would have won in other years.
So what do you, the viewers at home, think?
And don't forget, this was also the year of "Ed Wood", Kieslowski's "Red", and "Speed".

I don't think Forrest was that bad. I could lay the same critisisms Kevin Murphy puts on the movie towards Chaplins films. Charlie did the same damn thing. Lets laugh at the poor tramp, eating his shoe, but feel touched for him as well.
Saying that, Shawshank was vastly superior IMHO - Forrest was good, but I thought Redemption was brilliant on all phases.
Red was great, I loved the whole trillogy and I view it as one movie - so Shawshank... well let me go find a listing before I officially vote. But I loved that movie.

sampo, you forgot "North!"
Okay, another I liked was "Bullets Over Brodway", but nothing serioulsy comes close to Shashank, so that's getting my vote.

"Shawshank" is great, but "Pulp Fiction" blew me away that year.

Really like Shawshank, though, of course, I still prefer the book. I didn't mind Gump so much, but I've always preferred Pulp Fiction.

Pulp Fiction by a mile. It's one of my top 10 movies of all time. The Shawshank Redemption was a good film, but not even close to Pulp Fiction in my opinion. I don't care what anyone says, I think Tarantino is one of the most talented directors I've ever seen. Every single one of his films has me interested from start to finish. That's more than I can say for most directors out there.

Shawshank not only was the best film of the year it's the best film i've ever seen. I love it. Pulp Fiction is second but IMO Shawshank is superior in every way.

You guys have lost me. I think Shawshank a cheesy clunky bit of pap I couldn't wait to finish. Pulp Fiction is fun, but haven't found it holds up well on repeated viewings. An overrated film imo.
Haven't seen Forrest Gump. Everyone tells me I'm lucky.
Four Weddings is one the worst films I've ever seen.
I voted for Quiz Show. It's not a great film, but it's well acted and kept me interested, and it says a lot about the pressures of trying to be successful, etc.

Gotta go with Pulp Fiction. The dialogue is just razor sharp, and it's a lot of fun. It's like the Grand Theft Auto of films.

I voted "Other" for Ed Wood (which should've been in the poll even though it wasn't nominated for Best Picture).

I voted "Other" for Ed Wood (which should've been in the poll even though it wasn't nominated for Best Picture). I limited the poll to the Best Picture Nominees. But I agree that Ed Wood should have been nominated instead of "Four Weddings...", that's why I mentioned it in the introductory post.

Your a beautiful human being but you have rotten taste in movies and that's why I have to break up with you. No, no, don't speak. We're just not made for each other.

I don't go to the movies anymore. But there was a time when i did. So I can honestly say Pulp Fiction was the last great movie I saw in a theater.
