The main reason I don't get Cinemax or HBO anymore is because they Pan&Scan every movie. When will they figure out that if they simply show Letterboxed Widescreen, their audiences who don't already appreciate it now will learn why it's better to see the whole movie image!
(Although, as a Greco-Roman-phile, I may have to start getting HBO again this Fall to see their "Rome" series)

The main reason I don't get Cinemax or HBO anymore is because they Pan&Scan every movie. I got them and get movies on demand from them, where some of the movies on that are letterboxed. That MOD thing is awesome..and free for which ever pay station you're paying for.

Hey, Forrest, how's this for horrible mishandling of a film: once when 2001 was being shown on the BBC, the network heads were worried that the letterboxing would confuse or disorient viewers (against the black background of space). Their solution: add fake stars to the black areas. It was a dumb move and they apologised for it right away.
Just what do you think you're doing, BBC?

BTW, Don, have you seen the washed out, fullscreen version of 2001? I own it on VHS. My first copy of the movie that I bought way back in 1988. Now I only keep it around to demo "why Pan&Scan sucks" to friends by comparing it to the Letterboxed DVD version. (My demo also clearly shows "why VHS sucks compared to DVD" as an added bonus)
