I picked the 1950's. Ofcourse pick the decade that has the greatest amount of your favorite movies. In order: 50's, 60's, 40's, 30's. 60's just a smidge under 50's. And as i think the post-cultural revolution decades of the 70's, 80's, 90's will get a lot of votes i'll say i like the 80's of the three.

I picked the 70's.
The late 60's till some time in the 80's was a time when artists were able to make movies... and it really wasn't about the money.

I'd probably say the 2000's actually since it's had things such as Star Wars III and The Lord of the Rings trilogy, which are four of my top 10 movies, but on that list I choose the 50's cause it had some great sci-fi hits such as War of the Worlds, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Day the Earth Stood Still, and it also produced some great MST fodder.

I really have no preference. If I could, I'd pick 1930s-1960s over 1970s over 1980s over 1990s.

Yeah i'd go the same though 50's simply have a tad more of my favorites, although 60's contains my top 3 favorite movies of all time. Reasons why i like the 50's include the post-war era where a lot of capital was available for producing visions on screen all over the world from the Soviets to U.S., even the defeated powers created great movies like Japan: -Akira Kurosawa is in his prime: Rashomon (1950), Seven Samurai (1954), Throne of Blood (1957), Hidden Fortress (1958) -Alfred Hitchcock in his prime: Dial M For Murder (1954), Rear Window (!954), Vertigo (1958), North by Northwest(1959) -Aleksandr Ptushko king of fantasy the Russian Walt Disney: Sadko (1953), Ilya Muromets (1956), Sampo (1959) -Brando in his prime: A Streetcar Named Desire, Wild Ones, Julius Caesar (Antony's speech the stuff of legends), On the Waterfront -William Holden in his prime: Sunset Blvd (1950), Stalag 17 (1953), Bridge on the River Kwai (1957), -John Wayne in his prime: John Ford Cavalry trilogy, The Quiet Man, The Searchers -James Stewart in his prime: Almost every movie he's done of the 50s -Golden age of Classic Science Fiction. The 60's had Classic Scifi Part II but the 50's were known for scifi. Forbidden Planet, It Came From Outer Space, The Thing from Another World, Earth vs. Flying Saucers, Invasion of the Body Snatchers Notable mentions: Ben-Hur (1959), African Queen (1951), The Killing (1958), Ivan the Terrible Part II (1958), Touch of Evil (1958)
Yep the 50's was a high rolling time of imagination.

I picked the 70's. I just like the dramas from that decade more than any other time.
I also love the 80's since I grew up with them. 30's & 40's are great too. I like to watch TCM late at night or early in the morning when everyone else is asleep.

The 70s. Because you had loads of young, talented people allowed to take risks. I read an article on CNN about how a lot of great films from the 70s could never get made today, because the studios are scared of taking chances and losing $.

I will say, however, 1939 may have been the best year for movies ever.

My roommate says the same year.
I wander too much to really claim one decade myself.

I voted 60's.The greatest decade ever overall for international film.
It all starts with Fellini's La Dolce Vita....the great directors reached their peaks and the subject matter of film opened up....Bergman, Fellini, Bresson, dozens of major directors were constantly making great films.
In America the 60's started out like the 50's but by decades end the studio system gave way (a bit) and films like the Graduate, Sand Pebbles, Who's Afraid of VW?, Midnight Cowboy, 2001,,etc. came out.
This was an incredible dynamic time for film. I could go on all night listing the great films. I just love the sense of change and the great style of these times.....

My favorite decade in film was of course the 90's! Why? here are some reasons! The Final Sacrifice, Jurassic Park, Future War, MST3K the movie, True Romance, Basic Instinct, Saving Private Ryan, Strays, National lampoons Christmas vacation, and 12 monkeys! That's why!
