First off, I'm not a fan of Japanese animation.
Neither am I a fan of video game movies. They just take a good story and screw it over.
That being said, this movie was actually pretty decent. Yes, it did have all the hippie crap we're used to seeing in Japanese animation, and if you didn't play the game through you may get a little lost sometimes.
The animation was awesome. As far as video game movies go, it was great. This is the movie that should have been in theaters, not that crap they put out a few years back. Had they made it a little longer to incorporate the story of the game into it, it would have been a great game-based movie, and all the FF fans would have crapped their pants, it'd been so good, IMO.
BTW, Fight seens...WOW!
Anyway, if you're a FF fan, definitely see this!
Anybody else see it?

I am tired of hearing praise.
I'm mistakenly identified as an anime fan because there are several anime shows that I like. Of course, there are just as much that I don't. See, I don't categorize programs by the country of origin. I'm just as likely to watch something American, Japanese, French, I don't care.
Here is the second Opinion on Advent Children.
Looking spiffy does not make a movie great. Fast paced action scenes do not make a movie great. You know what makes a movie great? Character. Storyline. And how the effects and the action manage to work with that.
The movie was void of all story. Character development was non existant, because the producers figured "They know the characters. Who needs to see them evolve a little?" Besides the fact that we didn't get to really see any characters beyond Cloud and Tifa for just a few seconds.
And then every character from the game shows up, why? So they can say "Oh, we have everyone." They fight one battle, and do nothing but watch the last hour of the film with us. The last hour of the film is an action scene, because the story is set up within the first fifteen minutes of the film. It only takes fifteen minutes when your story is absolute garbage.
This movie once again proved the idiocy of anime fans. Why? Because they like it. They like it because they have an orgasm any time Cloud does something.
I want more out of a movie. Not half an hour of story, then an hour of action. I have more intelligence than that. For good anime, watch Lupin. Watch Princess Mononoke. If you want something cheesier and funnier, watch slayers. there is no reason to watch this film if you have an IQ over 70.

Let me clarify myself. I totally agree there was no story in this movie. Combining it into the original game story to make a movie would have been great for a big screen FF. As far as movies go, yes, this sucks. As far as anime goes, I wouldn't know. I don't watch it. I just liked it as someone who played and enjoyed FF7. If you're a FF fan, definitely see this! If you're not a FF fan, definitely don't see this!

I saw it. I was only half-watching, though. The use of materia was cool. Reminded me of the game. The last FF movie was cool, but I think it was lacking quite a bit. I am not much of a gamer myself, but I've always been around people who have been into it. In fact, I've even had room mates who have failed out of college because of video game addictions. LoL!
