Didn't care for Black Panther, don't get the love for it at all. My second viewing only lowered my grade for it. It's so routine (lets do this battle and ceremony thing to become Panther, then lets do it again to lose it... uhg). Panther, Rhapsody, Green Book and Vice make the grade, but Leave No Trace (the best film I've seen so far) does not? McKay for director over Granik?
The best, most challenging and innovative animated shorts (IMHO) were not invited to the party. (Solar Walk and La chute)
Blow me Oscar! I'll find something else to do that night. Other than maybe Spider-Verse I have nothing I really want to root for.

In the latest edition of things I just figured out - watching Green Lantern on television last night caused me to look up the cast and realize that Taika Waititi plays Ryan Reynold's buddy.
OK, back to my regularly-scheduled day.

Lol, yes I remember that was a small talking point when he got brought on for Thor. It's a fun bit of trivia, like Jon Favreau playing Foggy Nelson in Daredevil five years before directing Iron Man.

Well it's official: Aquaman just passed The Dark Knight Rises to become DC's highest grossing movie worldwide, right on the heels of Avengers: Infinity War besting the original Avengers to claim that title for Marvel and superhero films in general. Domestically The Dark Knight is still the highest grossing DC film and Aquaman isn't even close to touching it.
So congrats to the king of the seas for beating the Aquaman stigma.

It probably should be noted that Ben Affleck dropped out of the Batman role. People are taking this to mean that he's gone from the franchise entirely, though I'm unclear as to whether or not this is just in relation to Matt Reeves' Batman film or not, which is reportedly a prequel. It might be logical to keep him on the line for future Justice League sequels should they occur, though admittedly that might not happen for a while. Or maybe they'll just recast a second time.
Anyway, goodbye Batfleck. Good performance, not so good movies.
Also WB's DC slate for 2021 has been revealed: Matt Reeves' The Batman and James Gunn's The Suicide Squad. Ugh, just ugh with all the "The" reboots, because it obviously worked so well with The Predator. Will Wonder Woman 1984 be retitled The Wonder Woman? Will the Aquaman sequel be called The Aquaman?
Also slated is an animated movie based on DC Super Pets. Sure. Why not?

Maybe "A Suicide Squad" or "Your Aquaman" is next. It seems like a lazy method when it comes to revamping your franchise. In defense of "The Batman" - there are a ton of Batman movies. It does sound better to use "The" instead of "Batman 8" or whatever it would be at this time. Suicide Squad is brand new as a movie franchise, it doesn't have the same excuse. No reason not to do it, and more power to them. I have no plans whatsoever to watch it, however.

I don't mind it in Batman's case. He has a history of being called "The Batman" in the comics and he even has a TV show by that title. Using The Batman for a reboot title makes sense.
But The Suicide Squad? I really don't understand the point. Maybe Gunn was unhappy getting sloppy seconds on it and wanted to pretend his was the first. Dunno. Suicide Squad is not a great film, but if this really takes place in the same universe this is almost as lame as calling the fourth Fast and the Furious film Fast & Furious.
But in the long run the title doesn't matter as long as the content is up to par. Gunn hasn't directed a bad movie yet, so I have faith.

Mr. Sunday and his Weekly Planet co-host Mason break down the new Endgame Super Bowl spot.
This might be lifted from the new Weekly Planet podcast (haven't listened to it) but it's worth a look.
Note 1: They notice an empty space in a group shot that might be an erased character. They don't touch upon it, but it might be Captain Marvel.
Note 2: They get into a back and forth over whether War Machine has met the Hulk or not, but they forget that War Machine and Hulk both fought in Sakovia in Age of Ultron. They didn't share any screentime however.

I heard the "empty space" theories, too, both in that staring up at the sky shot and the shot where they heroes are walking through headquarters, backlit by the sun. I wouldn't be surprised if they're hiding something there.
One thing I see repeated a lot is that everyone is excited the Cap has his shield back, and that he's "shaking" as he straps it on. He clearly has the shield in that lineup shot, but that shot where an arm is seen in the shield and it's being tightened down? I'm not convinced that's Rogers' arm/hand.
Good trailer, but man 30 seconds is short.
I liked the Captain Marvel one, too, especially the shot of her punching the ship at the end and the brief look we get of her piloting her jet. I hate it when movies add stuff like "woo!" to those scenes, like they do here, but I I'll let it slide this time.

I liked both Endgame and Captain Marvel's trailers. But for me the highlight of all the Super Bowl ads wasn't even a superhero movie...
I nerded out so hard after I saw this. April can't come soon enough.
Though I will note that after the internet got to the Super Bowl ads this one became my favorite...

Yeah, the Twilight Zone commercial was well done. Peele seems like a great guy to head that project up. I still haven't seen Get Out. I should remedy that, even though I'm not a big horror guy.

Get Out probably leans closer to thriller with horror elements. I didn't it was "scary" per say, but it's a very well done movie. His next movie Us looks far more disturbing, if I'm being honest.
But the man steps into the Rod Serling role like he was born to do so. Hopefully this show is something special.
