If I could like this post twenty times, I would! It looks totally legit, everyone is reporting it. Vindication! Gunn's Guardians movies aren't really my favorites of the MCU, but his firing was complete bullpoopie. Welcome back, Mr. Gunn! Just concentrate on making a good Suicide Squad movie first!

I found these while screwing around today: two pretty solid interviews Kevin Feige did with Rotten Tomatoes before Infinity War released reflecting on the previous Marvel films. He did one for Pase One and one for Phase Three, there doesn't seem to be a Phase Two one however. Too bad, because some reflections on Iron Man 3, The Dark World, Guardians, and Age of Ultron might have been interesting (he briefly touches Winter Soldier in the first video). Edit: for some reason the player isn't working for that first link, even though everything seems fine on my end. Here is the proper link if you can't get it to play: youtu.be/7aXBcMlaxX0aNot to entirely bury the James Gunn story, but to update this post I made before the page flip, the Phase Two video randomly appeared on my Youtube feed just now: Also there is this more recent one where he talks about the end of Infinity War, the Fox merger, Disney+ Marvel shows (Loki in particular), Captain Marvel, and paying tribute to Stan Lee's passing.

Gunn just confirmed this is happening, in his first Twitter post in almost a year:

Heads up to all superhero fans: DC Universe is streaming the first episodes of Titans, Young Justice: Outsiders, and Doom Patrol free for non-members all week. All you need is a device that the app works on. I'm all over that Young Justice preview, and I'm hearing great things about Doom Patrol. Titans I hear isn't as bad as it looks, but most people say in retrospect it's not that great. I might as well give it a go anyway though.

So I breezed through all three of those episodes.
Young Justice hasn't missed a beat since it was canceled. Still the best DC show since Justice League Unlimited. The one thing that caught me by surprise is that they PG-13ed it up for this season, and they made it more like the DTV animated fare they've been doing, no longer catering to the Cartoon Network kiddies. I'm of mixed feelings on this, as I've one day wanted to go through Young Justice with several young children I help take care of, but now I might have to wait until a much later date. But still, Young Justice has better writing than most of those DTV movies, and seeing such a good animated superhero show displayed with mature storytelling is pretty exciting to me.
Titans wasn't as bad as I feared, but that doesn't really mean it's any good. The tone of the show is bleak and very angry, and I don't think that suits the Titans very well. The one that comes off the best is Raven, because the tone of the show matches her personality, but she should be the exception and not the rule. The other Titans should be the friendly popular kids that try to be inclusive for her, but they shouldn't be just as depressed. This isn't to mention Starfire's really bad Ronald McDonald wig makes it hard for me to take her seriously. And then when Beast Boy showed up with his green hair I felt like I was watching a higher budget version of Power Rangers: Time Force.
And finally is Doom Patrol, which is made up of characters I am not familiar with, but holy hell was this fun. Think Hellboy meets Mystery Men with a hint of Monsters vs. Aliens. It was so much fun, and I'm loving the characters.
Yep. I'm definitely signing up for DC Universe once I dump Netflix. Doom Patrol and Young Justice are worth it.

I might have said this before, somewhere (I'm old and my mind is slipping) but with streaming services I pop around from one to the other, so I'm never spending $ on more than 1 service a month, if that. They sometimes send me free months, as HULU did a while back and while I didn't watch a lot from them, they do have several interesting original documentaries. One on Bill Finger, another on George Lazenby, etc.
I did pay for another month of Netflix to watch the Umbrella Academy (loved it). I also caught Black Mirror and the House on Haunted Hill while there. And stumbled on a couple movies I enjoyed (Next Gen)
I'll probably take up DC on that free offering at some point to see Doom Patrol.
Oh and happy to have Gunn back. Loved the first Guardians, the second was alright. Hope he kills it on Suicide Squad.

Into the Spider-Verse hit home media today. Your body is not ready.
The blu-ray actually has an "extended cut" that's about 25 minutes longer. The added and alternate scenes are mostly storyboards, but it's interesting to see what the full pitch to this movie was. The only things I might have kept were Miles' training montage playing simultaneously with a "Spider Man: The Movie" where the movie Spidey gets the hang of everything in an instant but Miles keeps messing up, and a scene at the Spider-Man dinner party where the Spider-Verse group is cornered by Tombstone. I also liked the scene of Doc Ock diving into the portal at the end, but I'd argue it's best to keep her around for the inevitable sequel. But overall the theatrical cut is a leaner and stronger movie.
Also Nick Cage as Noir...god I love it.

So I'm watching Aquaman for the second time on it's gorgeous 4K disc (complete with beautiful IMAX scenes I apparently missed out on), and I was reflecting on how successful this movie surprisingly was when I had something of an epiphany. I started comparing this film to the failure of Green Lantern, and I realized that the smartest thing that Aquaman did was it embraced the lore of the character and told a story through it, which was something Green Lantern didn't have the balls to do and instead told a generic superhero tale. Aquaman created something sumptuous out of the character's world and let the audience dig in, and the audience embraced it.
Aquaman isn't a great movie, but it's fun to watch, probably for that very reason.
I'm hearing Shazam is pretty good too. The bonus clip on the blu-ray disc is pretty fun, so I'm looking forward to it.
BTW, 4K disc updates: Disney have set Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Civil War to be released on April 23. Warner will release all four Burton/Schumacher Batman movies in June. Universal will release Ang Lee's Hulk in July.

OK, caught Captain Marvel this afternoon and it was a blast. I always have to force myself to get out to the theater these days, but every time I do I'm glad I did. I'm going to do this in a hail of bullets because, well, it's easier. It's not a perfect movie, of course, but I'll stick with the stuff I really liked for now. * The structure of the movie was cool and different from other MCU stuff. It bounces around for awhile but you could still follow the flow. I also love a good amnesia story, and while the audience knows more about Danvers than she does, it's still fun to watch Brie Larson explore that search for who she is. Speaking of which... * Larson is excellent in the role. Honestly, they must have used her flattest line reads in the trailers. I was delighted with the character. She has charisma and humor, but she's different from any other major MCU character. It's a great performance. She'll do just fine in the MCU, and I'm looking forward to her interacting with more characters. * The CGI for Fury was fantastic. It kept me convinced for the whole movie, and considering how much Fury is on screen, that's really something. The effects overall were definitely up to snuff with modern MCU standards. * I did not see the Skrull/Kree angle playing out like that. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, and when it became clear they were really going to do what they did, it was a great surprise. There's a way longer comment here but since the movie is still in theaters I'll hold off on that. I can say that Ben Mendelsohn is great as Talos. * The trip to the 90s was fun. Got a huge kick our of seeing a Street Fighter 2 arcade game and a Space Invaders pinball machine! And the pinball machine gets some special attention in a later scene. As a collector, I was smiling. * Loved the music. As someone who was a freshman in college in 1993, this was a cool trip back. "Celebrity Skin" by Hole just smokes and it's a killer track to roll with the credits. * Maybe my biggest "f*ck yeah that's cool" moment was the reveal of Danvers' pilot call sign. When the trailers came out you saw Maria Rambeau's call sign on her jet, but you never saw Danvers'. I was curious about it when I first saw that, but pretty much forgot about it until the moment you see it in the movie. Yes, I got chills. Still going to process this for awhile. Anyway, thought it was great. Bring on Endgame

Sounds like ticket sales were nuts. I made it to opening weekend for Infinity War but I don't think I'm going to be able to do it for this. I'm going to have to stay off the internet for days when it hits theaters. But as usual, we'll see.
Hard to believe it's just a few weeks away.

I can't book my tickets until payday. I'm getting nervous. I really want to see if I can find an all day Avengers marathon of all four movies.

I can't book my tickets until payday. I'm getting nervous. I really want to see if I can find an all day Avengers marathon of all four movies. I heard AMC theaters (or at least one AMC theater) is showing every MCU movie in a row leading up to the premiere of Endgame. That's 50+ hours of MCU movies. Gives a little perspective of just how much stuff they've generated in 10 years. Glancing back a bit, a couple thoughts on the the previous Endgame trailer. * I got a kick out of the Black Widow voice over that said, "Even if there's a small chance…" while Scott Lang is one screen surrounded by garbage. It's a serious moment, but the word timing and the visual struck me as funny. * Peggy Carter's voice cracking on "start over." Damn. * Marvel says the trailers are messing with us and there are probably outright falsehoods in them. God only knows what kind of curve balls they've thrown out there to screw us all up. Does Tony really ever make it back to Earth? I'm guessing he does, but how devastated would people be to learn that was actually all a diversion propagated by fake-out moments in the trailer? Very. As for that latest trailer? Iron Man, Captain America and Thor rolling up on Thanos. Wow.

I'm not sure if we have any AMC theaters around here. Even if we did, I'm not sure my ass would ever forgive me if I sat through three days of nonstop Marvel movies in one theater. If there were beds, free food, and nap times, then maybe. Even still, by the time I got to Endgame, I'd be so dazed that I probably wouldn't k ow what I was watching.
So I'll stay content with my one-a-day marathon, which starts tomorrow! I'll also be seeing Shazam, so I'll be wrapped up in some super shenanigans.
Also, this dropped today.
Personally I didn't care for it, but everyone seems to dig it. Dunno.
