Not being greenlit isn't the same as being cancelled. It being MGM's last ditch effort at squeezing some money out of the box office, they're going to cling to it for dear life. And New Line/Time Warner most likely want the project to go ahead too.
I'd also like to add that this is excessivly off topic as well. Bond thread for Bond fans. If you have hopes for a future Hellboy film, the comic movies thread is where it belongs.

Here's an article at NY Daily News, that talks about Bond and Hobbit. I know they have turned in 2 scripts for Hobbit and hoped to be greenlit soon, but it sounds like MGM is in no shape to produce or even co-produce a film.
James Bond franchise on hold as MGM studio announces it can't afford 007 project By Ethan Sacks DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER
With MGM teetering on bankruptcy, the studio announced Monday that it was putting its James Bond franchise on hold.
"Due to the continuing uncertainty surrounding the future of MGM and the failure to close a sale of the studio, we have suspended development on BOND 23 indefinitely," producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said in a joint statement. "We do not know when development will resume and do not have a date for the release of BOND 23."
The announcement leaves the franchise's 23rd installment, starring Daniel Craig as the beloved spy and with Sam Mendes reportedly directing, unlikely to meet its scheduled 2011 release.
MGM has amassed a staggering $3.7 billion in debt, Variety reported, and was put up for sale in November.
MGM's financial troubles also could ring chaos to Morder. The studio is scheduled to co-finance "The Hobbit," the prequel movie to "The Lord of the Rings," with New Line - and now a shadow could be cast over that production's budget and schedule.
If there's one quantum of solace for Bond fans, however, it's that the franchise - which has grossed $1.6 billion at the box office in North America – is likely shaken, but not stirred. Industry experts believe another studio could be found to open its coffers in the nick of time.

To this day, my dad and I get into heated arguments about who's the best Bond actor. I think it's Sean Connery, he thinks it's Roger Moore (ugh...). The only other Bond actor besides Connery I've found somewhat adequate is Daniel Craig. He's badass.

There might be a light at the end of the tunel for a new Bond film... The Spyglass/MGM dealWith the back and forth news surrounding Bond and MGMs status, I'm not getting my hopes up yet. Plus Craig has agreed to do the US version of "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" so they'll have to work around his schedule. I wonder if they will try and get the director/screen writer back on board should this deal be struck soon.

The Spyglass deal is done, and B23 is set for November 2012. I've heard of Sam Mendes jumping back on the project, as well. Daniel Craig's involvement with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is putting a lot of speculation on whether or not he will be back, though. I'm fairly confident he'll return, though. Unless MGM's bankruptcy somehow cancelled his contract as Bond, he's obligated to do so as long as they want him back. Schedules can be worked around, and Dragon Tattoo is further into production than B23 is, so it's possible that he'll be done with Tattoo before Bond is ready to roll.
It would be a shame to lose him after two movies. He's just too damn good. Don't Dalton this one up!

Well it's been a while, but we have Bond news. Not a lot of Bond news, but some... Bond 23 will be titled Skyfall It will not be directly tied to the last 2 movies. I have no idea if the organization behind Vesper's death will even be brought up, but it doesn't sound like they are the primary focus. Bad guy will be played by Javiar Bardem They have launched the website for the next movie... www.skyfall-movie.com/I just "friended" the Facebook page, so hopefully I'll be getting updates soon. The film is being tied into Dr. No's 50th anniversary celebration. No details yet, but it sounds like they will be doing Bond stuff all year. I can't imagine what that would be since we have blu-rays. What else could they do? Books, games, animation? Dunno. But I'm happy, in 2012 I'll have Avengers, Batman and Bond on the big screen.

It seems like we've been waiting for this one to start production for years. Thanks MGM, you guys really know how to run a business.
Anyway, I'm really looking forward to this. Casino Royale instantly became one of my favorites, and I thought Quantum of Solace was very entertaining on the small screen (at the theater, I found that the fast cut style was headache inducing). It'll be interesting to see what direction they take, as "Skyfall" doesn't exactly sound like a happy-go-lucky film title.

Mendes has started a videoblog. Not a lot of info on the first one, hopefully we'll get some juicier tidbits later on...

First, "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". George Lazenby is AWFUL. Ruins the entire movie for me. He is not Bond, never was Bond, and should not have been Bond. Ever. He drops to one knee for the gun-barrel shot! Yeah, that's off to a great start. James Bond sans equilibrium. A Bond who can't even keep his balance while shooting a gun. Stand up straight and shoot the gun like a man. An Australian model?!?!? Give me a break. He doesn't even look the part at all. He looks like he should be playing someone's butler. And someone give him a paper bag and see if he can act his way out of it. I'll lay 8 to 5 that he can't. I realize I'm responding to a four and a half year old post, but as both a George Lazenby and OHMSS superfan I feel the need to point out a couple of things here. First, he's kneeling because it's something the character would realistically do. He's an expert shot, and kneeling is one of the three positions in international shooting competitions. It's also common sense for a military man to make himself as small a target as possible. The gunbarrels from the Connery era feature Bob Simmons/Sean Connery going into a crouch much like Lazenby's kneel. (Just look at Dr. No's for example). In fact, all of the gunbarrels featured a pseudo-realistic firing stance from Bond until the Pierce Brosnan films came about and he just stood there stiff as a board. The notion of 'standing up straight and firing like a man' is just silly to me. But, he's also kneeling because it's foreshadowing his proposal to Tracy. Very clever and subtle trick by director Peter Hunt that obviously goes over most viewers heads. And yes, James Bond does get married. Read the book. It's one of Fleming's best.

The theme's out, and it feels like a knock-off of a Bond theme. There's just nothing to it. However, I feel the same way about Adele as I did about Josh Groban a decade ago; my parents like them both and I find them completely uninteresting. It's like listening to white noise. And she's a Spu*s supporter, so she's basically not even a person. Clearly, my opinion might be a little biased, so keep that in mind. Oh well, at least it's better than Alicia Keys or Madonna. youtube linkAlso, the original Bond Blu-Ray releases are 7.99 on Amazon right now, a good price for anyone who doesn't want to buy yet another 007 box set. Also again, I can't believe how badly MGM botched Goldeneye on the new set. That's one I was really looking forward to upgrading, and it just looks awful. Boo to DNR and edge enhancement.

I agree that the new theme is very lackluster. I'm not really sure what this "Skyfawww" thing she's singing about is either.
I felt similarly about the theme from Tomorrow Never Dies. Like they were just trying to hard to make it sound as "Bondian" as possible and the end result was total pastiche instead.
Still... nothing's ever going to be as bad as that Madonna theme...

Hmm, A little lackluster at the start but I rather liked it all told. I also liked the theme from "Tomorrow Never Dies" - but agree that Madonna song is one of the worst.

Listening to it again -yeah, it's a fair to middling theme. Wouldn't make my top 10.
I'm not familiar with Adel, but does she always sing like that? I've heard other singers who can't pronounce "R", but she's mangling other words: "De", for "The", and as mentioned above, "Fall" become "Faw" (to name 2 examples). I can't tell if it's a speech impediment or part of her "style"?
What I liked wasn't so much the singing but the music, I like how the orchestra builds and builds. That part of it should sound good in a theater with a good sound system.

I can't tell if it's a speech impediment or part of her "style"? I heard an interview with her, and she's about as Cockney as one can possibly be without speaking in rhyme schemes. Usually, even strong accents don't leak into music too badly(even Keith and Ozzy can sing clearly), but every once in awhile...
