'Killers From Space' disappointed me on first viewing. I thought it was weaker than 'Hollywood After Dark,' which I felt had many more laughs written into it. The gag writing on KFS seemed much more sparse. In fact, I fell asleep and missed most of the second half. But I'll watch it again, because like most of us I am really hoping this new formula will be a big success. I will certainly buy new installments. I have 'Killers From Space' from before the Film Crew. It is such a slow moving movie. I think they should try to find ones with a faster pace. That said, there were many LOL moments for me. Most definitely enjoyed it. I also have a copy of "Wongo." I think you will find that more to your liking. Much faster paced flick but still as bad as they come. The Crew should have a field day with that one. I checked in on Amazon to see how these releases rate for sales but all are listed "Not Rated." Hopefully they are selling. I'd like to see Shout Factory list 8-10 per year.

My only misgiving is, I thought they went a little heavy on the jokes about Rue McClanahan being undesirable. I mean, the woman is still out there, fellas. She was no more 'mediocre' looks-wise, than any number of otherwise attractive women Asolutely ! I realize they ( in the past ) would often need things to latch unto to fill a "2 hour" show, but I was always a touch dismayed when it was merciless mockery of someone's looks. And in this case there really was nothing "horrid" about Rue at all. I supose when you've spent just about 20 years blasting targets, one's aim gets pretty wide & everything falls under that "scathing searchlight". I ordered Hollywood After Dark & Killers From Space together, & watched Killers first . . certainly the more 'fun' of the two ! Not having read all 6 pages of this thread I don't know --- has anyone else found "HAD" to be cut from the same cloth as High School Big Shot ? You know, relentlessly bleak with doom for all !

The Film Crew's site is down at the moment, it seems, and Shout Factory won't ship to the UK. Anyone feel like helping a British brother out and ordering me a set?

I watched KFS this weekend, and I have to say I was a little disappointed with the amount of/level of riffing. There were many times when I would see something in the movie that was obviously ripe for riffing, yet not a peep from our boys. For one example, with all the smoking (& related riffs) in the film, it surprised me that they didn't make light of the fact there was a cigarette machine in the hospital! (Unless I missed the riff?)

There was a hell of a mix up with Hollywood but it got here finally and Killers From Space was sent the day before release. it just has to clear customs.

Watched HAD last night. I thought it was great! Judged against normal MST3K standards, I would give it a solid 4 (out of 5) stars. The riffing was consistantly funny. And I'll tell you, this is coming from a guy who thinks the CC era was the best.
Also, I thought the host segments were just fine. I happened to have just watched Red Zone Cuba earlier in the week (ep 619), and I thought the Film Crew host segments were better than every segment in Red Zone Cuba.
The only thing that threw me a little was during the movie when they would occasionaly refer to each other by name. It would take me a second--wait Bill? Oh, right, Crow, er no, it is Bill.
If this ep is representative of all 4 movies. I say, the spirit of MST3K lives on and hey Shout Factory, bring on more Film Crew!!

My copy of HAD has been on backorder for too long now! So I rented it and wasn't impressed what so ever. In terms of how often I laughed it was right there in Hamlet range (meaning, very low)
But I'm not going to write a review till my DVD comes in and I can give it another shot. The Rue insults didn't bother me so much because I kind of got the cold chills when she was stripping too. She's not majorly ugly, but rather -for me- has this "mother" quality to her and that made the scene creepy.
KFS still hasn't arrived either but Deep Discount said it was in stock so it'll probably get reviewed before HAD.

It seems to me they are actively trying to not connect with any previous MST3K riffs/jokes with the Film Crew series (at least so far). Has this been discussed here yet? I mean, having Peter Graves make yet another appearance with our pals was ripe for--at the very least--some sort of nod/wink riff to a previous MST3K riff or joke...and yet I don't recall any.

I watched Killers From Space last Sat. and I thought it was really funny. Like the closest thing to MST so far. A couple days ago the 'Christopher Walken air traffic controller' joke popped into my head and it made me want to watch it again! I think I will in a little bit actually. I thought all the Peter Graves Biography jokes were classics too. Im just hoping they are going to keep making new dvd's.

Just the old standy Biography jokes BTW, I need to add this to my review. But on Kevins bonus, don't click on anything. It's kind of fun, Kev gets fidgity and keeps encouraging you to click on an outtake.

I finally checked out "Killers From Space" and enjoyed it quite a lot. My favorite joke was during the giant lizard montage, when someone (maybe Kevin?) said that it's a common editing technique to throw the film strips together and see what happens, and (I think) Bill mentions that "Michael Bay uses that, doesn't he?".

It's kind of fun, Kev gets fidgity and keeps encouraging you to click on an outtake. Well, you can't go wrong with a good "Biography" joke, but this brings up the question of how they're going to go forward with The Film Crew. Are they going to attempt to make some more contemporary riffs? I remember a couple of them on these first two Film Crew discs, but they were a rarity. Sure, us old codgers remember Peter Graves on Biography, but the newer fans were in diapers or short pants while he was hosting it (1987-94) I suppose that since our F.C. pals are...*ahem*..."older", they're naturally going to not be as 'hip' to the more recent trends, commercials, shows, etc. The first MST episodes riffed heavily on TV ads and shows from ten to twenty years earlier (say 1992 back to the late 70s & late 60s), if you applied that to 2007, you'd expect riffs from 1990s-era culture now. I know that the MST3K writers tried very hard to avoid 'current culture' references at the time to help prevent making the show 'dated', but the same references they avoided back then are now the prime fodder for today. I suppose it would take an addition of a younger writer or two, however, to accomplish this sort of 'younger fan connection' with their riff material, but then the Film Crew would need a real budget to accomplish this. And that may not what they want to do anyway, I'm just sort of rambling on about it, since it did enter my brain a couple days ago and it seemed valid, since a LOT of current MST3K/Film Crew/Riff Trax fans are younger, and deserve a couple riffs that they can have the pleasure of saying, "Oh, yeah, I totally remember that..."
