A couple of posts in Lyrics Lane got me to wondering if there are any other Richard Thompson fans here. Is it just McCloud and me?

He was here a week or so ago, but I did not have the funds to go see him. But he stops here on every tour, I think. I'll catch him again next time. The first tour I saw him on was in 1985 for Shoot Out the Lights.

I'd never even heard of him before. But I've been listening to stuff on the net, and there was plenty that impressed me enough to dig deeper.
Any albums I should focus on?

Well, he started with Fairport Convention in the late 60's, made records with his wife (at the time) Linda Thompson throughout the 70's and early 80's, and has been solo with his own band since. If you like old school celtic fold rock, start with Fairport Convention - What We Did On Our Holidays, Unhalfbricking, and Liege & Lief. My fav's with his former wife are Shoot Out the Lights, Across a Crowded Room, and I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight. And out of his solo stuff, I love Amnesia, Rumour and Sigh, and Mirror Blue. Here's a discography from his website. And here are some youtube videos! youtube.com/watch?v=RfVEHjhnsEc Shoot Out The Lightsyoutube.com/watch?v=A_FJImYHkZk The Wall of Death, with Clive Greggson & Christine Collister (FYI find any Christine Collister music and listen to it, her voice is like a weeping summer rain) youtube.com/watch?v=2hHiRPPxsS0 The Who's Substituteyoutube.com/watch?v=-K18xQgDS3U Beeswing - one of my favorite songs, period ...maybe that's just the price you pay for the chains you refuse...
