I craped out with my Richard Thompson thread but does anyone here like the band, X? I know GodoHell has mentioned them. I've been listening to the reissues and reminded of what a great band they were. Anyone else?

Count me in! They came out about the time of Black Flag and Dead Kennedys. Most of the best US punk bands came out of California.

Yeah, I love X - especially their earlier stuff. The later stuff I can still get into, but it doesn't seem as consistent as their first few records.

desdpite my punk leanings, I've never heard X - Knew about them sure, always was interested in catching there act, but with so much music out there to explore a lot has fallen through the cracks over the years.
But thanks for the thread. It's another tyo add to the likst of "check this out" (along with "Wire". Need to find a Wire album to listen too)

For me they got better each time through their first four albums. Yeah I'd say I probably agree. "I Must Not Think Bad Thoughts" is one of my favorite X songs, and actually all of "More Fun In The New World" is great. After that one, for me anyway, the records started to head downhill (not that they ever got terrible, just weren't as great).

Definitely a lesser album but it has it's moments.

Sweet, sweet dissonance.
Early X is the best, as has been said. Los Angeles is still my fave. They started changing gears on Under the Big Black Sun, but it's still a great album. After Billy Zoom left the band, though, things kind of went downhill.
There's an undertone of sadness in their songs that I like. It's not whiny and emo like, say, The Smiths, but still gets the world-weary POV across.
I wish they'd get together and do more, but John Doe's solo efforts are just about as good.

No new studio recordings that I know of. I noticed that on their web site not too long ago when I was searching for lyrics. I'm not a big fan of "reunion" material. I'd really like to see more of John's mature lyrics paired with Exene's voice....if she still has one. Now you've got me curious. I guess I'm going to have to check the CD out.
