In my daily checking of the Rifftrax blog, I found this gem waiting for me this morning: blog.rifftrax.com/2008/06/24/dear-cinematic-titanic/#comment-12074It is an open letter from the Rifftrackers to the members of Cinematic Titanic, inviting any or all of them to work on a collaborative riffing. This makes me so exited...I desperately hope that we'll be seeing a response from the CT camp sometime soon. I'd really like to know that there are no grudges being held on either side. Besides, how amazing would it be to hear our beloved Mike and Joel riffing together? Makes ya fill up with those warm, fuzzy feelings, don't it?

Wow! This is really interesting. I mean, I've never felt that it was the Rifftrax guys that were the problem in regards to a collaborative effort.
Let me 'splain, Lucy. I love all involved with MST3k... no bias towards anyone... but Joel is the one that got the raw end of the deal. He's the one that willingly walked away from his baby so that the show could continue because Jim is clearly a pain in the rump. So, he had to sit back and watch Mike and everyone else that followed continue to have fun with the show that he created because he was the better man willing to sacrifice for the sake of the show. So, if the Rifftrax/CT thing never happens I won't be shocked... I don't think he has any hatred towards any of the Rifftrax people (though I've heard that Kevin and Joel had some differences as well), but who can blame him that he might not really feel like getting creative with these people? Besides, Joel is weird... and I think he wants to prove that CT is the king of all riffing delivery systems to prove something. Just my opinion, but it does make sense...

I would be beyond shocked if Joel himself ever did anything with RiffTrax, but then I was also shocked when he appeared in Soultaker, so who knows. I believe he's said that he's not interested in riffing on newer movies, which is RT's niche, so even if he had no ill will towards the RT guys (which I don't think he does) the RT thing is probably just not his bag creatively.
But certainly MJ will probably continue to "cross over", and I could see Frank or Trace doing something as well. But probably nothing like an official "CT/RT Presents" thing.

Well Rifftrax has done older stuff. Fred Willard guesting on Missile To The Moon is still one of the best and the Troll 2 one was much more in the MST3K spirit. I think you're right though, probably not Joel and for some reason I don't see Josh doing it, but the rest aye.

So far Rifftrax seems to be the outlet for old shorts. If anything, I could easily see some guest spots for those - it would be more of the old style, and it would probably be easier to pull off a few of those compared to one longer movie. How I would love to hear Mike, Kevin, and Trace riffing on some of those old shorts. ;D I'd honestly be more interested in hearing those three riffing together again than even a Joel/Mike pairing.

Can't really add more to what you said. All of it sounds correct including how Joel may react due to how he was pushed off the show. Any future collaborations will likely be how Mary Jo worked with Rifftrax and likely none will feature Joel.

I always wondered what Joel and Jim fought about. What could've been so controversial that it risked ruining the show?

As far as I can tell, they fought about the general direction of the show. Syndication, a movie, etc. Jim wanted these things, Joel didn't.

Let's just hope that after the Comic-Con panel, 15 years or so of bad blood goes under the bridge so they can all collaborate together and call it MysteryCinemaTrax3000.

A one-shot MST episode featuring everyone who ever worked on the show. It would be the greatest thing ever.
It'd be interesting to see what plot line they come up with to combine all the characters from the show. Dr. Forrester, Pearl and TV's Frank re-kidnap Mike, Joel and the bots and send them back to the SOL - or something like that.

There is one open spot on CT possibly for a guest riffer. Maybe Mike could go over there . I love the new acronym MCT3K

The sets would make it a pain to do just one show. They might be able to do the theater segments the same but take the host segments off of the SOL.
I think Joel might end up on Riff Tracs but he's only done his second ep of CT and they just opened a new store so he's kinda busy. I'm sure there working on a shoestring budget and doing a lot of the work themselves so give them time.
If he wants to do it, I'd bet that Mike would let him pick the movie, as long as the DVD was pretty easy to get. No rights issues to worry about. I'd bet a lot of the older Misties who haven't tried it yet would buy a Joel, Mike ep. I'm sure once they tried it, a lot of them would buy more. The toughest thing for businesses is to get customers. The second sale is a lot easier than the first.
I'd like to see Kevin on CT, or how about magic voice. Just have Mike or Kevin's voice on a CT episode and then the other CT'rs could riff on who the heck was that. They could just dub it in, and Kevin or Mike doesn't even have to be there when they shoot the ep.

Although it is my opinion too that it would suck to watch your show go on without you and I also agree that Jim M looks like a pain in the rump, I also think that we don't have enough info to put Joel on a pedestal and call him "the better man." It very well could have been him being the pain in the rump and wanting to run a show that although he created, had morphed into a bigger colaberation, and that it was due to his stubbornness that he walked away from it. As far as we know, if Joel had gotten his way, he would have stayed on the show, but it would have fizzled out soon after, and we wouldn't have gotten those next 100 odd eps from Mike and we may have never met Bill. We just don't know...
