Apparently these have been out a couple of years but I just found them and wondered if anyone else has checked them out. They're only $20. Each set has a theme (the three I got are Warriors, Nightmare Worlds, and Sci-Fi Classics) and while I haven't gotten a chance to watch any yet I'm sure it's a no-frills, no-bonus type deal. There are several MST3K movies (and Wasp Woman and Doomsday Machine) between the three I got, and judging by the titles the others are probably around the same cheese factor. The negatives (without actually watching the movies yet) are movies that are on more than one set, and the discs themselves are in cardboard sleeves (but lodged in the larger case in a way to keep them from sliding around), but at $20 you probably expect that. I just thought I'd give a heads up to anybody like me who likes these kinds of movies, even without a guy and two robots making jokes. The sets are listed at Amazon with the movie lists if anyone's interested. When I get a chance to watch something I might post an update on how they look.

I have a weak spot for these. I have 7 of them (mostly the horror and sci-fi ones), 4 of which are still sitting on my "To Be Watched" shelf. In my experience, you usually get at least one classic, a sleeper, a handful of watchable flicks, and about 45 turds. It's okay though because I've paid the same price for ONE DVD that turns out crappy. At least this way you get 50 movies for usually about $17. Can't beat that. As for the packaging, sure it's cheap, but I've never had a problem with a disc playing and I've bought 2 of the sets used.

How is the quality of the prints? Are they public domain?

Quality is pretty poor generally, but occasionally you WILL get a film in letterboxed format and/or a decent print. Most of the titles are PD, but some of them are flicks I've never heard of. I also have a pretty cool 20 pack of "scare" films that have PD stuff like Reefer Madness, but it also features Terror of Tiny Town in there for some reason, and that alone was worth paying $10 for.

I got a couple of these. I'm always meaning to set a day off to myself and watch them all. Hasn't happened yet, but I plan to stock up on alcohol and pizza. It's going to be the greatest day of my life.

I bought a decent horror collection that had House on Haunted Hill, Christmas Evil, Don't Go Into the Basement, and House By the Edge of the Park (in widescreen!!). It has a ton of others I have yet to watch, but the price was worth it for HbtEofP alone.

ya know..i got sucked into a few of these some years back when i found a collection that included Pieces/Kill Baby Kill/Deep Red/Horror Rises from the Tomb and several others....my major beef is that they're always chopped up. Pieces was intact, Deep Red was butchered...as was HRftT... i guess if you just wanna find out if you might like something enough to buy the REAL version...then it makes sense. I kinda stay clear of them now.

I kinda stay clear of them now. The Hatchet Murders version of Deep Red or did Mill Creek do a set with the recut movie under the original english title? I ask because I've only seen the Hatchet Murders in several title descriptions and for that reason, never bought one. I've also seen a redone DVD of Deep Red {Profundo Rosso} with Italian only scenes that is also not the original Deep Red DVD. It doesn't flow very well because some scenes were just meant to be cut. I wish I bought the Anchor Bay Deep Red release when I picked up Phenomena and Suspiria. As for Mill Creeks DVD releases, I have their Hitchcock early film collection. 20 early Hitchcock movies for 5 dollars. Worth every penny just for that worthwhile cut of the 39 Steps.
