The Satellite News just put up an announcement that nearly made my heart stop. Here I am, mourning the fact that I missed Comic-con because it's all the way on the West Coast... and now Joel, Trace, and Frank are going to be guests at Dragon*Con! This is really exciting news for me, since I'll be going to the con (for my fourth time). Dragon*Con is one of the largest fan-run conventions, and is held every year in Atlanta, Ga on Labor Day weekend (coming up in a month!) More info is at www.dragoncon.org. If any MSTies are planning on attending, we should meet up! ~ReptilianSamurai

Yeah, I'm about to crawl out of my skin with anticipation. One week to go!
I live in Atlanta, and I've been going to Dragon Con for the last ten years. Mike and Kevin were there a few years back and I almost crapped my pants when I got to meet them.
I'm hoping that they'll be down in the Walk of Fame for a while so that I'll be able to get an autograph or two; a panel discussion would be out of this world.
I guess I'll see you guys there...

OK. Someone give us the real scoop about whether the pilot episode of The Green Slime was played at Dragon*Con. If it was, how much was shown? Was it the same clip as on the old scrapbook tape?

I was there, and it was a lot of fun. They had two panels. In the first, they talked and took questions, then showed the entire Wasp Woman DVD. I had incorrectly assumed they'd be riffing live, so that was a little disappointing. I did enjoy what I saw, but after a few minutes I left to do other things, knowing that I'd be enjoying the DVD at home in the near future. Dragoncon staff are real freaks about crowd control, and while they were seating the hundreds and hundreds of viewers, someone repeatedly instructed us to fill the seats "row by row". Joel, Frank and Trace were behind the stage waiting. ...the first thing Frank said when he came out was "row by row". Live riffing! During the second panel the next day, Joel showed the Green Slime pilot and a presentation reel that they had made to show to the Comedy Channel. Joel said that he had recently found them in his stuff, and had "supervised the DVD transfer myself". They looked great, so he probably had 3/4" masters. He didn't show the Green Slime pilot in its entirety. After a few minutes, he said "okay, you can stop, it just goes on like that". It seems that the pilot did not include the entire movie (or else this viewing copy was edited), as the theater segments faded to black shortly after he sat down and said a thing or two. The first riff (or comment) was that the film was made the same year as 2001 A Space Odyssey. It seemed that Frank had never seen the pilot before. I don't remember how much was on the scrapbook tape but I'm confident we saw a lot more of it this time. The pilot opened with Joel alone at the SOL desk. He introduced himself with his own name (not Robinson) and seemed to be presenting himself as an alien visitor and not from Earth, orbiting in the satellite/ship (I forget which term he used) "of my own design". He introduced the bots during the next host segment, again stating they were of his own design. During these two segments he spoke in a deliberate, grandiose "addressing the people of the Earth" kind of delivery. Then, during the next theater segment (with Joel still alone), Joel stopped the playback, and discussed it a bit. He said the original intent was to simply have a "companion" while watching the movie, not someone who commented and riffed the entire time. Then they showed the sales reel. Funny KTMA promos for the show bookended the piece--the opening one used real viewer comments, mostly negative ones. Between the promos was a series of clips. Entire thing ran about 7 minutes. I didn't spot anyone videotaping, alas. Maybe we can hope that the AV guys who ran the DVD managed to burn themselves a copy.

I took video of both the pilot and the sales reel on my camera. Sadly I was seated behind a pole, so there's this big pole in the middle, but you still get the general idea. Anyone know how I could edit them down for size? (Right now they're a few hundred megabyte .avis that would be impossible to share).

That's one interesting report, guys. Nice to hear there are still good copies of that rare material out there. Bad year to miss both conventions in San Diego and Atlanta

Thanks donmac. This is great. Can anyone make out what it says (in the smaller type) on the screen right before the pilot starts? It looks like:
TV23 PRODUCTION MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATRE 3000 MALLON MALLON ? ? (maybe a date - which would be cool to know) ? (CH 3 or something like that)
