I thought the pinball/mousetrap/number thing with the electric keyboard was pretty cool. I think the Pointer Sisters did a performance related to that at one point on the show

Yeah, they (or at least one of them) *did* record the pinball music numbers.

You're right. I was thinking of two separate things. The red rubber ball on the steel roller coaster was the one I was refering to.
The Pointer Sisters sang the the cartoon version with the funk backing
As for actual performances, I remember a big letter "U" groping Smokey Robinson ("You Really Got A Hold On Me") and Herbie Hancock jamming on his then-state-of-the-art keyboard rig while warping the samples of the kids talking.

Ah, "Furry Happy Monsters" is one of my favorite of the modern era Sesame Street songs, if only for the yellow muppet in the background going "I am SO sad!"

I liked the Mighty Mighty Bosstones doing "Zig Zag Dance."

When the import of the soundtrack to The Muppet Show, everyone that worked at the record store bought it. It was an import, with a gateway cover. Several months later, the American version came out, single cover and 3 songs shy.
