For a diehard Mystery Science Theater 3000 fan, you watch a MSTied movie, but you don't expect to be launched DIRECTLY into the feature. You expect to see 12 minutes of host segment bits and then go into the film. Without the MST treatment, you expect to see a host segment 25 minutes in, and you're lost because you don't get one. Speak for yourself, sir. Some of the movies they did can be hilarious or fun to watch all on their own. After all, the concept was invented by watching movies like these. And I'd be willing to bet that everyone who posts here has some DVDs in their collections of dubious quality, so it's not as if anyone can sit in judgment of someone who watches and enjoys terrible film.

I enjoy the occasional terrible movie.
Honestly, I find them to be more enjoyable than mediocre ones. That's not a joke, I mean that sincerely. If they're horrible, they at least manage to be memorable to some extent.

^That's a really good way of explaining it. I'll have to remember that.
Another outlook I like is from the X-Files, where Mulder watches Plan 9 over and over again. He says that it's so illogical, it allows his brain to shut down and think outside the box. Manos has this quality, and I think Beast of Yucca Flats as well, especially the flag on the moon narration.

Well, Plan 9 is just hilarious. It went past bad, navigates beyond Manos territory at deranged, and manages to wheel itself all the way back around to Comedic again.
The other way of looking at it is a kind of "One Man's Trash is Another Man's Treasure" thing. I have always been, and will always be, a fan of the un-MSTed version of "Radar Men From The Moon." Why do I like it? Feel free to skip the rest of the paragraph if you don't care, you won't miss much. I enjoy the nostalgic fun of the serial adventure style. I think it's a kind of pattern of story telling that we've come close to forgetting about, sort of like if humanity just stopped writing sonnets or haikus. Characterization in serial films doesn't have the luxury that modern TV or movies have. As such, you wind up with stock characters who, like the figures in paintings, have to largely remain constant (I maintain that you can tell good stories with flat characters. Indiana Jones is the same character at the end of the movie as he was at the beginning, no real development or arc there. Merely demonstration, and I'm grateful for it.) Furthermore, I love the history of special effects, and have you seen the way that Cody flies? That is seamless, man. Considering the time these shorts were made, to pull off an effect like that is the result of some serious technical planning and wizardry. Radar Men from the Moon may not be high cinema, but that doesn't mean I won't enjoy popping in an occasional episode (occasionally chuckling at some of the bizarre plot twists. Moon Men robbing a bank? Really? Heh-heh-heh.)
Now, do I expect other viewers to share my reasons for loving this series of short movies? Absolutely not. Most people find the mere thought of serial movies to be synonymous with bad storytelling. If I tried to convince people that it was worth watching, at best I would get a number of bored people who didn't really pay attention to it because they made up their mind that it was bad in the first place.
Sure, most of the movies on MST3K aren't my idea of viewing pleasure, at least when un-MSTed. But every once in a while there's a rare gem that speaks to you. And, well, when that happens, it's probably best to just get some popcorn and enjoy it, even if liking it doesn't make sense in the end.

Indy doesn't develop in Temple of Doom? From "fortune and glory" to saving all those children from slavery and giving up the stone? I am outraged sir, outraged. Well, not that outraged. Actually, I think I'm more disturbed that you like Commando Cody.
Seriously though, that makes sense. I've always just seen the serial as a lingering relic from the days before television. Next time I go through the early seasons, maybe I'll want to kill Cody slightly less.

Just as I tuned in to see TCM playing Black Christmas (to my endless delight), afterwards tonight they are showing Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. I know it's short notice, but I wanted to mention it. It's clear someone in TCM programming knows what they are doing.

For the past few years on the last Saturday night of each month TCM has played cheezy movies between 1 and 5am. Of the films shown that appeared on MST3K I've seen have been...
EARTH vs THE SPIDER MONSTER A-GO GO THE GIANT SPIDER INVASION LAND of the GIANTS "MIXED-UP ZOMBIES"
...and probably more. If your interested in seeing any MST film unriffed keep an eye on the TCM schedule. If not interested - ignore.
