Ever been watching a TV show and then, from out of nowhere, you see a reference to a place that you're very fmailiar with?
For instance, I watched a new episode of the Simpson's tonight (the first time I've seen a new episode in about three months, I think. My Sundays are always too busy.) Anyway, there was this guy called "The Parson" coming to visit Springfield, apparently as the head of the denomination the Simpsons belong to (Presbalutheran, did they say?) The episode continues with no surprises, and then the Parson mentions having been in Michigan City, Indiana.
Instantly I'm like, "Woah! I grew up there!" And then I say, "Woah, if this guy existed, he probably would have been familiar with Countryside, the church that I used to go to where I'd see Dave Willis' artwork/comics about the youth group put up on the wall! And then Dave Willis went on to become a succesful webcomic artist by bringing us such strips as It's Walky! and Shortpacked! (Sorry, I needed another webcomic reference, I didn't meet quota last week.)
Anyway, I always love it whenever a big time TV show mentions the small time places that I associate with. That might be a tiny part of MST3K's appeal, they liked to lay on lots of references to places that they knew about in Minnesota and elsewhere (such as the infamous Circle Pines, or references to certain fast food places in Minneapolis.)
Anyway, any really nice home-town lines that you liked from shows?

I live in the middle of nowhere. The closest thing the Simpsons ever came to getting anywhere near my house is the mention of the many hotels (hosts to Borscht-Belt Humor) that existed in the Catskills in the sixties. Nearly all of which are now gone.
Dirty Dancing also was supposedly taking place in the Catskills, but in "Solomon" county, not "Sullivan" county. There is not Solomon county anywhere around here (and, I think, nowhere in the state, but I'm not certain). And they shot the whole thing in West Virginia anyway because the Catskills are so far gone from what they once were. Which really sucks when you think about how much of a decline the Catskill hotels were in in the sixties. We're a jail and school-based economy now.

From MST3K:
Guy in movie: Richmond, Virginia? Mike(?): No, Richmond, United Arab Emirates!
