Pretty much all of Season 3. Most people regard this among the best seasons ever, but I don't like it much - the riffing still has too many "huhs" and "hmms" and self-conscious chuckles, and the Brains still haven't settled into their roles yet. For the most part in this season, Joel still acts like he didn't rehearse at all, Crow's too whiny, Servo's voice is too deep, Gypsy's still dumb as a post, Dr. Forrester is kind of bland, and Frank's just trying too hard to be funny. Everyone reads their lines like this is their first time reading the script and they don't know what they're doing yet, and they keep too many blown takes in the final cut - it all looks extremely unprofessional. I don't think the show really hit its stride until about two-thirds of the way through Season 4.

First Spaceship on Venus simply was not very funny, save for the Shaft joke.

But I do like a number of S3's -- Daddy-O, It Conquered the World, and Viking Women -- but I skip a LOT of the others.

Pretty much all of Season 3. ... I don't think the show really hit its stride until about two-thirds of the way through Season 4. Word. To which I'll add, too much Japan. . I have to say that I don't disagree with any of what you just said about Season 3. The best thing about Season 3 were the shorts ("Catching Trouble", "Posture Pals" and of course "Mr. B Natural"). . .but most of the movies are not on my all-time best list. Only ones I return to on a regular basis are "Daddy-O", "Pod People" and "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians". And ironically, the episode even most Season 3 defenders would dismiss is actually a favorite of mine: "Castle of Fu Manchu". And yeah, I mentioned Fugitive Alien earlier in this thread, but I agree: very few of the Japanese imports were really all that great. They all had the same look and feel, and very few of them made any sense. I'd have been happy with just one Gamera movie (vs. Guiron, of course) and would have preferred it if they had chosen completely different movies to riff instead of the other Gameras . I'm glad they took a rest from Japan after that season. (The time between Fugitive Alien II and Prince of Space was just about right...)

I'm not sure I dislike any allegedly "hyped" episodes. Was Starfighters ever hyped? Because I don't particularly care for that one. The movie just bores me to no end and no amount of riffing could help.

Was The Creeping Terror hyped? Because it's hard to get into, with so much narration, for me. Usually narration is prime riffing material (i.e. Boggy Creek II) but this guy just keeps droning on and on. There seems to be very little actual dialog.

For winning the Peabody Award, Outlaw was very underwhelming.
I didn't like it much the first time, and every time i watched it afterwards, I laughed less when with my favorite episodes, I laugh more.
Glad the show won the award, but it was far from their shining hour.

If I ever see Colossus and the Headhunters again, it will be too soon... Wasn't aware anyone rated that one particularly highly, not me any way. It's no "Girls Town" or "San Francisco International" or any of the other stand-outs from S6.

Agreed on the Season Three sentiment. The only episodes I ever regularly watch from that season are the Master Ninja pair.
Even though its personal rank has dropped significantly over the years, I still have a soft spot for "Pod People", my first episode ever.

And let me be the fifth or sixth person to agree with the 'season three not being so great' sentiment. I agree that the riffing didn't reach it's full potential until the last part of the fourth season, although have learned to appreciate most season three episodes more with repeat viewings. As long as I balance them out with later season episodes.
Here's one, though, that I'm pretty sure I'm alone on. I've tried a few times, but I just can't get into Eegah. I know it's beloved by pretty much everybody. I don't dislike it, but I always thought the riffing was nothing super special. Privately I always thought that the super fun goofiness of the film and the 'watch out for snakes' catchphrase covered up the fact that the riffing isn't their best work.

Overall, I like more S3 than S4, And as far as "Too much Japan", don't see it since that's where some of the best and goofiest movies they riffed came from. "Too much Hercules" is what hurts S4 for me.

I just never could get into MANOS. As for the hype of it being the worst movie they ever watched, if not the worst ever made, yes, absolutely that is true! However, as an episode, it's just average. The terribleness of the movie just brings down the entire episode. It's alright, and one of the better Joel episodes, but it just wasn't the amazing episode that everyone was saying it was.
Most of the Season 3 episodes don't do much for me. I do like Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (one of my personal favorites), but most of the episodes I've seen from Season 3 just aren't very good. Everyone seems to like Time of the Apes. I remember maybe laughing once during the entire 1 and a half hours of the episode.

That would be The Rebel Set. The short was promising (meaning I liked the short), but the movie was what made it a let down. It was hard to follow, and the jokes wern't that funny.
