BS. The reason that they were akward was the he was calling them out and criticizing them and they were miffed. The reason isn't that they are funny but that it's inside joke funny, not meant to go too far and Colbert didn't do that. For god sake this is an event where Bush once did a video about looking for WMD under his desk and the First Lady did a monologue last year. Both of those things were lamer than anything that Rob Schneider has done. And yet they laughed liked crazy that time. That first lady monologue was acclaimed by everyone there and it was the biggest insult to comedy since Hope and Faith got the green light. How do you know they were miffed? How do you at all know what they were thinking and why they were thinking it? I thought the Laura Bush monologue last year was even less funny and many conservatives, Michelle Malkin and Laura Ingraham especially, agreed. They blasted the First Lady's schtick for days. Again, I'm not bothered by what Colbert said (and I don't see any evidence that it rubbed President Bush the wrong way either), I just don't think he delivered it in a humorous manner, which is what he was paid to do. This is just my opinion, but it came off to me like the typical talking points of liberal bloggers.

I think that anybody else had said Laura speech, it would have been labelled as horrible, but since it was the first lady and she just went out there, it was labeled as great when it was pure lame garbage. The point is not the the president is funny or the event is that I've seen the excuse from some conservatives about how Colbert wasn't funny when his speech was a million times better than what is done in that event recently. Especially when lame stuff like Laura's was laughed out loud and praised by people who have no clue about comedy. They either didn't get Colbert because of being too stupid (which wasn't the case) or they just were akward becuase he was calling them out and hard and they aren't used to that but just some lame joke about being a desperate housewife and idiocy like that. C'mon Rafael. So people who don't share your sense of humor have "no clue" or are "stupid"? That's pretty elitest.

This sounds familiar. Remember the hulabaloo when Don Imus did the same thing, at the same event, during the Clinton Presidency?

I hope that all conservatives who criticized it did it because of the unfunnyness of her bit and not content. As for knowing they were miffed, yeah maybe the fact that his rant was hard criticism to all of them including the press , yeah makes me believe that it was the fact they were mad more than amused. Especially when that is a crowd that laughed at Laura Bush and George Bush video which were inferior in every way. I haven't been able to see Colbert video just read the transcript and although I thought that some of the things were attacks and not as funny but I thought part of it were really good. Colbert has been doing his satire of republican talking heads from Fox News for a while and when he is on it's pretty good. And although Bush has heard a lot of his attacks before, I really doubt the media hears it as much and him calling them out was a good idea. I don't care if they laughed or not (to me they are clueless about comedy) But that paid to do is an exuse to me because I do feel he did his job and it's the thin skin of the reporters if they didn't laugh as much. If they want a pat in the back every time and people not to disagree with them they can get shut it and join the world. The press sometimes loves to judge but god forbid somebody say something to them.

C'mon Rafael. So people who don't share your sense of humor have "no clue" or are "stupid"? That's pretty elitest. In regards to the opinions about the first lady and the president joke, its my opinion and I will stand by me. I will stand by all of it. Of course its only and opinion but that is a given and I hate people who always in everything start saying " it's just my opinion" and "I don't want to offend anyone". To me that is bending over backwards. To me a person that praises and talks about Laura Bush monologue as" genius" or "stand up material " has no clue about comedy. To me it was that bad. Then again you never now if they were honest or sucking up. Cedric the entertainer said that she was great and that she had a great thing she did when she said a joke and looked at the president and he wanted to steal that ( cut to her doing it, looking all stiff like a zombie from dawn of the dead). I don't blame her for that because she was nervous, but since Cedric does have a clue about comedy to me he was a hypocrite or just joining in the hype since there is no way he would do that. As for calling them stupid I said that if they didn't get Colbert they were either too stupid to get he was doing his colbert report persona and that they didn't get the jokes and then I especifically said that I didn't believe it was the case and I think they did get the jokes or they got mad at him for doing them which I thought was the case. Since I read the transcript and haven't been able to see the reactions I have to judge them but if some reports are right about people groaning and ahhing when he joked on reporters and the fact that many of the audience probably was the one that laughed at the horrible Laura Bush peformance, leads me to believe that it was more them getting it and of course it really take a lot for people to laugh when somebody points out their faults.
