I own no music.
I used to have respectable LP and CD collections, but...
Today I was out with my brother Jim, hitting garage sales, as we are wont to do every Saturday morning since I moved to South Carolina.
At the first one I found
Trainspotting #2
A complilation of music from that movie.
Iggy Pop, Bowie, Joy Division, Heaven 17 are featured. Cost?
A quarter of a dollar.
But wait, there's more.
Another lady had THREE big (18 gallon) Rubbermaid containers full of LPs.
She was asking 50 cents per album, but wanted to unload them all on us if she could.
Right away Jim found a James Taylor record he didn't have, and a Livingston Taylor album (James' brother?) he was interested in.
Right next to that were two Elvis Costello albums: This Year's Model and My Aim Is True. EC is one of my favorites.
So we asked what she wanted for all of them...
"Oh, twenty dollars?"
"Um, Okay!"
The Rubbermaid containers would cost more, new!
I am now going through the records and putting them on an Excel Spreadsheet (Jim's idea).
I started going through the first container.
Wow!
Cool!
Gallagher?!?
Wild & Crazy Guy!
Beatles '67
Neat!
Then I noticed...this feels...light.
Looked inside...no LP!
About half of the first 3 dozen albums covers were sans record.
But- there is still plenty of Gold.
I'll post the spreadsheet when I'm done.
At about 90 LPs per container, I've still got a ways to go.
I still think we got a great deal.
Here are the empty album covers...
Springsteen- Born in the USA
The Best of Genesis
Montrose
INXS- Listen Like Thieves
Simon & Garfunkel's Greatest hits
Tommy- Soundtrack
Beatles- 67 to 70
The Kinks
Kinks- Volume 2
Gallagher
The Cure- Standing on a beach
Patti Smith Group- Wave
BOC- Some Enchanted Evening
Ted Nugent
Stevie ray Vaughn- Couldn't Stand the weather
Steve Martin- Let's Get Small
The Doors- Other Voices
Why would somebody take their albums out of the covers in the first place? To put in a JukeBox?
That's all I can think of.
One thing. Some of these albums covers (with or without an LP inside them) have a corner cut off, or a hole punched in the corner, or a notch about 1/2" into the album, like someone took a hacksaw to it.
Anyone know why?
Please don't say-
"They won't play"
Maybe a library discard?
Here's a sample so far of the albums (with LPs inside)
