There are times when Joel & the bots, or Mike & the bots, throw in a riff before the movie has done it's thing for it.
Examples:
"Pod People" -- "Trumpy, you can do STUPID things!" appears before the kid in the movie says "Trumpy, you can do MAGIC things!"
"The Creeping Terror" -- somebody makes a 'Bobby' joke before the rotund, fishing grandpa ever uses his name.
I'm interested to know where else you folks have picked up on this phenomenon. I'm guessing it's happened a bunch more times.

It's pretty common during the KTMA season. I just can't think of any. They were more like references to what's about to happen, rather than actual jokes though.

Well from Cosmic Princess there was:
CROW: "Spaceship graveyard." BARBARA BAIN: "It's like a graveyard of spaceships!" JOEL: "Good call." CROW: "I could be writing this crap!"
Outside of KTMA there's Slow The Plot Down from Mighty Jack, where Joel asks the bots their favourite part of the movie 'so far', even though this comes at the end of the episode...

To be quite honest, I thought there were a couple of times in Laserblast where the riffers jumped the gun. They were making fun of things a second or two before it actually happened on screen (example: the close-up of the makeout scene).
Simply a case of poor timing, I guess. (Or maybe Comedy Central fatigue.)

From The Atomic Brain, Kevin anticipates the "I'm just doing my yoga" riff too early. He says it before we see Mrs. March's butler dead on the floor, so Servo's riff comes out like this:
"Don't wo-- oh...... don't worry I'm just doing my yoga."

Joey the Lemur, anyone?
Or how about the janitor in Earth vs. The Spider that shows up in a host segment (played by Mike Nelson), then is seen in the movie about ten minutes later?

In Horrors of Spider Island, I always thought two host segments had been switched -- the one where they mime the plane crash and become "languid, helpless and sex-starved" happens much later than it did in the film, while the "Mike getting caught in a giant spiderweb" segment happens before the professor is discovered in the spiderweb in the movie.

^^^^^^^^
Yeah, the Spider Island example is definitely a case where they simply mixed the two SOL segments in post production by mistake.

I recently bought Volume XV, and thus for the first time saw The Robot vs. The Aztec Mummy. For some reason, you can hear Josh whispering, "You can see it standing there. You can see it standing there." Then the mad scientist in the movie says, "You can see it standing there." I have no idea why Josh did that.
Spider Island was also something I always wanted to bring up. I kind of found it odd myself that Mike does the web gag before we saw the corpse in the actual film.

That joke (or a variant thereof) appears a few times in Season 1, where there's a dead spot in the dialogue and Joel or the bots will pretend to give an actor their next line. Unfortunately, it spoils the illusion of the show because it makes it apparent that they've watched the movie in advance, which is probably why they stopped doing it.

i got one! in high school big shot there's a line about how dad ate the last of the dog food; it's relatively funny anyway but at the end you see dad eating out of a can and it's pretty obvious that's the moment that inspired the joke.

In Space Mutiny, Crow starts to yell out another name for Ryder at the same time as Servo says "Get off the stair master!" He then says it at the proper time afterward.

I just watched The Unearthly the other day, and noticed that when "perky" Natalie goes to visit John Carradine's character for a check-up, you hear Crow say," Well, she's very prompt, and did I mention perky?"; when Carradine starts talking to Natalie, he says, "Well, my dear, you're very prompt!" (Servo then says, "I was also going to say 'perky', but...")
These jokes are funny upon first viewing, but then you realize that the writers are cheating abit when they telegraph something like this.

They did a LOT of telegraphing in Season One, and I don't prefer that style. Of course, they were just getting started in dem days.
