Good science fiction -- at least good tv science fiction -- is as dependent on its villains as its heroes. Any favorites or least favorites? I've been watching my old tapes of Star Trek: DS9, and even though it doesn't seem to be the most popular Trek series, I think Gul Dukat might be the series' most complex, and maybe even its best, villain.

Great choice with Dukat.
I'd offer up Gaius Baltar from the reimagined BSG. Though calling him a "villian" is probably too limiting.
And of course the Cigarette Smoking Man from X-Files.

I'm quite partial to Doctor Who's Davros (The new actor did a great job playing him in the series 4 finale. He was the best thing about that particular story!)

Definitely the best sci-fi villain EVER is Scorpius from Farscape. Best overall aliens on that show as well - the make-up for Zhaan was awesome. (Virginia Hey was really dedicated for actually shaving her head and eyebrows for the role).

Definitely the best sci-fi villain EVER is Scorpius from Farscape. Absolutely. I was going to mention that in the original post but I wondered if anyone else would bring him up. Didn't take long. Scorpius is the greatest. Whether it's real Scorpius, fake Scorpius, little Scorpius, or Harvey Scorpius, Scorpius rules.

Don't forget cartoon Scorpius from the "Revenging Angel" episode. (My computer's too slow for me to put up links to anything).
Gotta give Wayne Pygram credit for sitting in that make-up chair for all those episodes he was in - that had to take HOURS.
The Scarrans were pretty good villains, too.

No love for Jubal Early or Niska?
(There must be other Browncoats on the forums...)

You know, this is going to seem kind of sad, but I'm going with it because I really do believe in it. It's probably hard for anyone to fathom now unless you were watching from the start, but the first season of Heroes was actually darn good. It stumbled toward the end, and in every subsequent season, but when season one was firing on all cylinders, it was captivating. And the best part about it? Sylar, who didn't even appear through most of it, but started stealing every scene as soon as he became a regular. Like many say, he probably should have died at the end of the first season instead of letting him become a cartoon version of himself later on, but whatever. He still managed to often be the most interesting part of the show, even if the writers didn't know what the heck they were doing.

Gul Dukat was awesome. That actor played him perfectly. Also from DS9 Wayoon (sp?) was great. I always thought that show had two of the best villains around.

Gul Dukat is a great villain because he can justifiably argue that he is defending his people by his peoples rules. He has a form of integrity that is consistent. From his viewpoint, he is a hero. That make him a much more complete character because its easier to, in some ways, respect him while despising all that he stands for.

He's so evil, yet it's hard to hate him. BTW, Jeffrey Combs is awesome in anything, really ( Re-Animator!).
