Nice to have the Twins in first again. If only for a day. I can see the Sox winning tomorrow though. Don't know what to expect from Perkins. Apparently, we shouldn't expect too much. I'm a little surprised they brought him up, as he wasn't doing that hot in Rochester, anyway. My main worry with the Twins right now is Justin Morneau. The guy is taking a long time to recover from that concussion. I know it's something you don't want to trifle with, but it's been a month and a half. I'm hoping it's not another Corey Koskie situation.

Having a healthy Morneau back in the line up would be great. Once he starts his rehab assignment, there will be some light at the end of the tunnel. For now, there are other players stepping up. Delmon had a great July and Mauer has heated up. But everyone has to stay healthy. We'll wrap them up in bubble wrap if we have to. ;D

Twins are driving for the pennant, a win tonight would pretty much seal the deal unless they really screw up (and the White Sox suddenly start a hot streak). Should be an interesting mix and match in the AL playoff structure depending on what happens with New York and Tampa.
Morneau is still out and probably not coming back. I mean, there's no time to even rehab before the playoffs. Management still isn't saying anything other than they're just thinking about his health right now, not getting him back on the field. As has been said, thank god for Jim Thome and some of the others who have had to step up (including Cuddyer at first base). Don't know where we'd be without them.

I'm not expecting Morneau back either. He should concentrate on coming back healthy next season. It'll be nice being the 1st team into the playoffs this year. I wasn't digging the game 163 in back to back years. Too much nail biting. AHA!! As I was typing the Twins clinched! ;D Now time for a beer!

Even though I'm a Sox fan, I have to admit that we didn't deserve to win. Our lead was largely due to playing against the NL, and if we couldn't even beat them once at home in the last series, then it would be a waste to go to the playoffs, anyway.
I was at the first game of the last series. I think I knew it was over when we had bases loaded, Konerko struck out and then Manny struck out. Giving up 5 more runs the next inning didn't help, either.
And the buzz now is that Ozzie may be going elsewhere (the Marlins?). So if he goes, Pierzynski goes, and Konerko goes, it'll basically be a different team next year. Maybe that's a good thing.

Twins clinch! Nice of them to do it before the 163rd game for a change, too. The White Sox seemed like a different team after the break. I mean, they were tearing it up for quite a while in the first half, then they really fell off. Picking up Manny was grasping at straws.
If Ozzie goes, I'll miss him (I guess that makes sense seeing as he does practically nothing but praise the Twins). As for Pierzynski, I won't miss him as much. The guy is a textbook pest, always causing trouble for the opposing team by using a killer tactical understanding of the rule book. Even when he played for the Twins it was strange watching him do his stuff on the field.
Hard to see the Sox without them, but I guess it's possible.

I hope The Big Red Machine is in the World Series!
And when I mean The Big Red...I mean The Cincinnati Reds!

I'd like to see a Twins-Reds World Series. But if the Twins don't make it, I wouldn't mind seeing the Reds win it. I also think Joey Votto should get NL MVP. But we'll see.

OK, it's playoff time! Teams are set to start duking it out in under an hour, so I guess it's time to put some predictions out there.
Twins vs. Yankees As much as I want the Twins to win, I just don't think they will. Yanks in four.
Rays vs. Rangers This is a tougher call, though I think the Texas bats will prevail. Rangers in five.
Rangers vs. Yankees Sadly, the Rangers don't have the tools to deal with the New York crowd. Yanks in four.
Phillies vs. Reds Again, I'm pulling for the Reds here, but the Philadelphia pitching staff should be too much. Phils in four.
Braves vs. Giants The Braves limped into the playoffs, and lack the depth for a deep run. Giants in three.
Phillies vs. Giants Phillies have the deep post-season experience of recent years that the Giants don't. Phillies make it back to the series in five.
Phillies vs. Yankees National League home advantage may be enough to sway this fairly even matchup, in my opinion. Phillies in six.
I'm ready to see how much my predictions suck (hoping they do and the Twins make a run!)

When I make predictions they usually turn out exactly the opposite. My predictions: AL Twins over Yankees in 5. Rangers over Rays in 4. Twins over Rangers in 7 NL Reds over Phillies in 5. Braves over Giants in 5. Reds over Braves in 6. World Series Reds over Twins in 7. Some of the predictions might be wishful thinking. But whatever. I can possibly see the Twins getting to the World Series but with NL having home field advantage, I'm giving the WS to the Reds. Don't have any facts or stats to back any of this up. Just flying by the seat of my pants.

I'm surprised at how well the Blue Jays did! They were supposed to completely suck this year. Bautista might get a lot of MVP votes too.

Bautista was definitely on a tear this year, and without PEDs. And the Blue Jays definitely made Target Field look like a hitters ballpark.

Roy Halladay, who is a local hero around here (he grew up about 20 minutes from where I live), is an absolute man among boys out there.
I'm not pleased that he's in a Phillies uniform*, but we're witnessing a legendary talent right now.
*For one, I'm sick of seeing them win so much lately; and for two, he'd look so much better in Cubbie blue or Rockies purple & black.

That was a heck of a game he threw there. What a pro. He's like Greg Maddux, but more so, if that makes any sense. Not flashy, but it seems like he's gold when he gets out there. Awesome. Oh, and to hell with the Yankees. Go Twins!

Yes indeed...on the Halliday love, not the blue uniform. ;D And an RBI to help himself out on the other side? Just a nice touch of class. heh But that last out was a bit close. Ruiz almost bobbled the ball (or it hit the bat on the ground or whatever), and the throw was just two steps ahead of him. The NL hater in me SO wanted to see him lose it in the last out.
